This movie doesn’t appeal to me at all and reading the comments here confirm that. I don’t enjoy paying $50 to sit in a crowded room full of strangers to watch a movie anyway. I’d rather watch it at home.

Um, ok. Why is everyone suddenly attacking the OP? She was expressing her opinion on a MOVIE – not life/death. A silly Leo DiCaprio movie! Also, there really isn’t anything wrong with women being a little conservative/prudish if that is the case – just like there isn’t anything wrong with women liking $ex! To each their own.

@letigre:  My exact thoughts!

I haven’t seen it yet, but Fiance has and he loved it. He said he didn’t recommend it for me because of the movie’s length.

There are other things to clutch one’s pearls over.

DH and I saw it, and I just thought it was OK, but DH really liked it. No one walked out on our showing.

And geez, it’s just a movie.  I certainly didn’t feel like I was “disturbed” by any of it and I certainly didn’t lose any sleep over any of the scenes.

I’ve seen far worst movies.

Eatting a goldfish is disturbing? To me that’s like eatting sushi! Lol I want to see it, I like real life stories! And that’s what this is, not Cinderella lol

I thought the movie was really good. Yes, there was nudity, drug use, and foul language, but it added to the story line. My SO and I laughed throughout the entire movie.

I’m not a prude but movies with a lot of love making nudity make me uncomfortable . I just read parental guide on imdb and it sounds pretty bad :p Though I never was interested in seeing it.

My mom is pretty on the conservative side and she enjoyed it. I haven’t seen it myself, but I doubt it could shock me. I guess I’m just broken.

I can see disliking a movie but this seems like a really extreme hate.

Critics in The New Yorker, Village Voice, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal etc all panned it. For similar reasons (all this sex and drugs has no point to moving the story along). OP is in good company.

@Magdalena:  but at the same time

Roger Ebert = 3.5/4

New York Times = 5 stars

Metacritic = 75

you can find good and bad reviews for any movie.  This is obviously not for everyone.  As I said before – FH and I thought it was hilarious.  I was surprised at the Oscar Noms, especially seeing as Tom Hanks was snubbed, but it was a funny movie about a ridiculous guy doing insane things with obscene amounts of money.

Just to add a random tidbit, by the way, The Departed is an adapted plot from a very popular Hong Kong-produced movie called Infernal Affairs. The entire plot except the very end was pretty much ripped from the movie, but put into an American context.
