Hi, congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the UK!

I share your opinion that the Soleste wedding band is beautiful but overpriced. For the total carat weight you are getting I just don’t see it as cost effective. We had a lovely SA who spent a good few hours with us looking at wedding rings and I decided on one that was a little cheaper than the Soleste but with a higher total carat weight. My advice would be call in to any Tiffany store, they are always willing to help, even when you are clear that you won’t be making a purchase right now.

You will find the UK has a lot of high quality jewellery stores on the high street from Boodles (which I honestly think is more expensive than Tiffany) to Mappin and Webb… Goldsmiths to Ernest Jones… so whereas I can’t recommend any particular ring to you I would suggest a good old Google session.

I’ve read a lot on this website about diamond prices being higher in the UK than other countries so definitely have a good shop around.

Congratulations again and Good Luck!

Futuremrsnik:  The Blue Nile ring posted looks more like the Tiffany Novo than the Soleste. The edges of the Soleste are rounded more to match the Soleste e-ring. Do you care what metal is used? I would just go to a jeweler, show them the photos of the soleste, and they can create it with the more rounded edges in whatever metal you want.

There is no way I would spend approximately $2k on the Tiffany band when basically the same ring can be had on Blue Nile for a third of the price.

If it were a distinct, unusual design, I would say go for the Tiffany and pay the extra money. But this is a very straightforward, classic style and nobody is ever going to notice the difference unless you take off  your ring and let them look at the Tiffany stamp on the inside of the band.

Futuremrsnik:  Yes it’s all very exciting!! I adore London, I’m there a lot with work and I’m practically on first name terms with most of the Harrods staff, they must roll their eyes when they see me heading towards the doors! I can recommend their tea rooms for Afternoon Tea when you’re celebrating one thing or another. I’d love to live there but house prices in Knightsbridge run into millions for a little terraced so I’m definitely not in the market for one!

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the high street jewellers here. Ernest Jones and H Samuel are fantastic starting points especially if you want to keep costs to a minimum. Just make a day of it one weekend, it’s so much fun.

Futuremrsnik:  Yeah go for the Blue Nile ring, you can use the money you didn’t spend on the Tiffany Soleste ring for other wedding related items or just save it up for an anniversary band later 😉
