Hi Bees!
So when I purchased my dress, it happened to be the sample they had on the rack and it fit like a dream…the waist was perfect, the top was perfect, and the only thing that had to be done was hemming! So when I initially tried my dress on, I was wearing a full strapless bra, and had no problem getting the dress zipped. Then, about a month later (and NO weight gained–I was being very careful), I went in to get it hemmed. Beforehand, they had done some cleaning on the dress. This time though, the dress was extremely tight in the ribcage, and very tight to zip up, even though this time I had no bra on!! I just went in again (once again, no bra) and same thing! It was extremely tight, mind you not quite as uncomfortable as the previous visit. Can anyone shed some light on this? I know for a fact I haven’t gained any weight, if anything i’ve lost! Does anyone know if the dress will stretch out a little on the ribcage? It’s the allure 8904, and the top where it is tight is made of satin, and boning.
Any help is awesome ladies!

Soon_To_Be_Mrs_Biker: I suppose your dress shrunk during cleaning! That’s really unfortunate but I think satin should have little “give” and should stretch out a little. When is your wedding? I think I remember your dress thread and what you look like. You don’t need to lose any weight at all but maybe you could try to drop a pound or two just to be sure you’ll feel comfortable in your dress? My ribcage is where extra weight falls off first so if you’re anything like me, it shouldn’t be too difficult.

MsMeow: Thank you!! Yeah I thought about maybe just losing a pound or two, I usually have luck with shedding small amounts of weight and yes I am the same, I lost weight up top first. Thanks for the advice!!

BUMP–Sorry to bump my own post lol but I’m wondering if anyone else has also had this issue and what they did?

No similar issue for me, but I think it’s entirely possible that the dress shrunk a bit when they cleaned it.
I would probably try to lose a couple of pounds, and be SUPER careful about salt and simple carb intake in the week before your wedding. You will be surprised how much you de-bloat in a few days by seriously limiting salt.

Have you tried it with the bra again? You’d be amazed how much and undergarment can affect the fit of certain dresses… Before you worry about losing any weight (unless you’re set on it and would fell better if you do), maybe try it with the same undergarment as before? A simple shift from the cups or a little nip due to the boning/wiring of the bra might have been the trick! Best of luck, hope you feel great in the gown on your big day!

Dresses can totally shrink when cleaned. Sounds like that’s what happened. I don’t know if this is logistically possible, but could you just wear your dress around the house (after showering and being careful to keep in clean) to see if it stretches out some? I know when I first wash my jeans they’re tight and somewhat uncomfortable. but after wearing them for a full day they’re back to being comfy – so maybe your dress will be the same?

JenGirl: Yes!! I’m going to pick it up this week and fully intend on wearing it (alone) around my bedroom every so often…at least now I have a legitimate excuse!! 😉

Well that’s kind of why I was surprised, I wasn’t sure why it fit looser when I had a bra on that was lightly padded, but tighter when I had no bra on at all! I’m going to try it with the same bra, thanks!!
vermonster: Thank you! Yes i’ve been limiting my salt intake big time and been eating lots of asparagus and drinking a TON of water in the hopes of reducing some bloat 😉
