Getting married 2/21/2020 in NJ
(worried a little about the weather!)
Our church service is 3:30pm-4:30pm
Our venue is approx 45 mins away….would it be feasible to have a 5:30pm cocktail hour? I’m so not sure of how the logistics work. help?!

I think that’s really cutting it close. Ceremonies almost always run late. And then you have to think about getting people out of the ceremony space without the lingering and socializing, and factor in possible traffic in with the 45 min drive. You run the risk of losing about a half hour of your cocktail hour due to people not being there or there being only a few guests. I’d start it at 6.

I agree with PP, start at 6pm, since the 21st is a Friday you’ll need to consider the after work commute. And as a fellow New Jerseyite, traffic is always crappy here!
Just a side note, I am considering having my wedding in February 2020 and nervous about the weather factor too! Fingers crossed for us!

Ordinarily I’d vote against a gap (I think they’re awkward) but given how far away the venue is, pushing the cocktail hour back a wee bit probably wouldn’t hurt. Between shuffling out of the ceremony venue, driving, parking, bathroom breaks, and everything that hour will go by FAST.

I’d do either 5:45 or 6PM
