I got married YESTERDAY (!!!) and as soon as the excitement wore off, my HUSBAND (sorry, I love that word now) and I started talking about the tattoos we had been planning to get after the wedding. He suggested he could get them on our honeymoon next week if we find a really good tattoo artist.
He wants my name on his arm, he’s always said he would like that and I think it would look nice on his inner bicep… but now I’m seeing things that say it’s a jinx to get someone’s name tattooed on you? What’s that about?
Also, I want a symbol, not his name. We don’t refer to each other by our names, so I wouldn’t get his name, but he has his reasons for wanting my name on his arm. So… any ideas of what I could get? I love his eyes and the wrinkles around them when he smiles and I’ve seen some cool tattoos of people’s eyes instead of a whole portrait, but I don’t know… Or I was thinking of something small.
What tattoos do you have to represent your spouse/marriage/family? All my tattoos are very unique, so I would like another unique idea. Thanks!

I have a dandelion on my wrist. It symbolizes the fact that my children will fly away but will replant themselves and still always be a part of me.

I’m getting three tattos to symbolize my relationship/marriage once we get married. I’m getting my engagement date on my right wrist, my wedding date on my left wrist, and I’m getting my wedding ring tattooed on. I like the idea of the eyes, but you have to be sure to get someone who could do that right, or it could end up looking really strange.
One idea that I like is to get the eternity symbol with your names or dates or something like that.
Btw, the whole “bad luck with tattooing names” thing is bad luck because it’s permanent and a lot of times once you have that kind of commitment it freaks people out or something. But, you guys are married so that’s up to you.

I want to get matching infinity symboles. Something simple 🙂 So I would suggest that. Other than that, dates are really symbolic and meaningful. Or, for me, I’d get a giraffe or something. He loves giraffes. And maybe a zebra (cartoon) as well since he used to call me zebra. Now he’s on walruses, though.

I have a small “t” on the inside of my left ankle. It’s the first letter of DH’s (and my new) last name. I didn’t want to get his name or his full last name anywhere on my body – lol.

You know I’m going to show Darling Husband your tatoo. I’ve been wanting something on my wrist that symbolizes us since we got married but he’s been so against it. At first I was going to do our date but I backed out. I honestly like the initial. I grew up in complete disfunction so to speak and honestly hated my birth fathers last name. I was always dying to change it but never went through with it. I’m extremely proud of Darling Husband name and his family and I think I could do a really pretty M on my left wrist! Thanks!

@misskoala: That’s really pretty!!! I have my fiancé’s first initial on my side, but it’s also my great grandma’s first initial and means a lot of different things.

My Fiance wants us to get the eternity symbol tatooed on the inside of our left ring finger. Very small though, so that our rings could cover it up. My job doesn’t really let me have tats. I’ve been wondering if it’s even worth getting. I don’t have any tatoos and I’m sort of afraid of needles.

@MsPanda: I sent my oldest off to college last month (10 hours away) and this tattoo was very significant as we left his dorm. I got it about 3 years ago, and it was my first and only tattoo.

SO is really REALLY into dragons so when we are married i planned on getting a dragon to represent him… until i found an amazing design that i believe will represent the love shred better heres the image:
this is the japanese symbol for love that has been altered a bit to form the heart. i want ot get our wedding date next to it as well as our sons birthday and any other children we have with have their birthday added aswell. i like it becasue its just LOVE not specific no specified to one person.
after my son was born i got a tattoo of a gecko to represent the changes of life and as a reminder to myself that i can adapt. it represents a time in my life where things turned for the better 🙂 i also got 3 flowers next to it in different sizes to represent past present and future with the future being the largest flower
i also just recently got a new tattoo when my best friend came down from alaska. we each got cupcake tattoos(we are pastry chefs) to represent true lifetime friendship and even though they are different designs they stil have the one common link that ties them together
