Shortly after the 6-month mark people started asking me if I registered yet.  Not sure if there’s a timeline for that type of thing but I did with less than 6 months to go.

We did it 15 months out. The sole reason for doing it this early was because our parents sent around the wedding website with our registry on it and people were getting freaked out when all they saw was my stand mixer and other kitchenaid toys. They suggested that I might want to register for gifts under $200, not realizing I hadn’t registered for anything other than my dream toys yet. We had a free Saturday and had fun with it. We will add/update as it gets closer, but we didn’t want any more freakouts. They can be happy that I have $4 gifts on it now :-).

I would say that was on the early side, and up to 4 months before is on the late side. Our original plan was about 9 months out so people could get us registry presents for our birthdays/Christmas.

We did it 12 months out (mostly because I was excited!), but kind of had to re-do it at about 6 months out when my shower was scheduled.  The problem with doing it early is that sometimes the stores stop selling stuff and then you have to pick out new stuff.  this happened with our bedding and luggage.  I wouldn’t recommend doing it 12 months out, but closer to 6 months would be good.

We’re just under 5 months out and I think we’re going to hold off another few weeks.  I don’t feel like we have to register until the wedding invites or shower invites (whichever are first – it’s still up in the air) go out.

It’s exciting to register early, but you have to stay on top of it.  It’s frustrating as a guest to look at a registry and have a hard time finding an item that’s in stock.

We based our timeline more off of the shower than the wedding since we know that was when people would really start looking at the registry.  We ended up registering about 2-3 months before the bridal shower.

We did it about 6 minths out, right as we sent out the save-the-dates.  I wouldn’t suggest registering any earlier, because items might get discontinued and you could end up with only half a set of dishes.

we had put it off because i didn’t see a real reason to do it so early. we’re almost at the 4 month mark and i’ve had several people ask me about it already. my shower is still 3 months away and no invites have gone out yet so i figured i had time, but since people were asking i figured i could atleast start them. so i set it up online and registered for a few things yesterday. Fiance is out of town so i’m waiting to make the decisions on the bigger items til he gets back, but i figured i could register for a bunch of the cooking utensils and things that really only I will ever use.

i also decided to try to sift through pots and pans and added a set i was pretty sure i liked to the list. i wasn’t 100% on them yet, but i figured i could add them and that’d be a good way to keep track of which ones i thought i liked.

then i logged in today and saw that someone had already purchased the pots & pans, and i only made the registry yesterday! i was so shocked, but i guess that made up my mind pretty easily on whether i wanted them or not. honestly, i think my mom might have bought them for us, but i really have no idea.

Fiance and I went last Wed. and started ours. We have about 3.5 months until the shower. I wanted to have time to compare items at a couple different stores so this will give me enough time to do that.

We have been slowly registering online for the past few months.  But with my shower coming up, and invites for that going out soon I may need to finish it up!

For us, it also depended on stores. We registered at the 5 month mark at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and Macy’s. At the 4 month mark, we registered at Target. Target’s stock tends to change quite a bit, so we waited for awhile with them.

We’ve had to change a few things out, but not too many, so that has been a plus!

We started our registries last weekend (umm…10 months to go?), and by started I mean that our BB&B registry is dunzo (FH & I are LDR, and he was on vacation), and our Crate & Barrel one is just waiting for furniture, which we’ll add once we know where we’re moving (hopefully we’ll know in August-ish, right around the 6-month mark).

We registered May 2011 for our August 2011 wedding.  Shower was in July.  Like PP said, I didn’t want items to end up being discontinued if I registered too early.  Also, I knew that our guests wouldn’t be looking for registry info until the last minute, anyways!

We registered in January for our September wedding.

I wish we’d waited longer, because I’ve had to replace just about everything on the Macy’s registry because of things discontinuing.
