Do you plan to take formal family pics? If you do have formal pics, then you need to add that in.  Your guests may not want to stand around and wait while you go off and disappear with the more “important” guests.

It’s totally up to you, but I like when toasts are during dinner so that people have something to do while people are speaking. I also like when the parent dances are after dinner and are used to open the dance floor.

Unless your wedding is really small, I doubt 30-45 minutes is enough for dinner.

@TheFutureMrsCarness:  Isn’t that what’s happening during cocktail hour/pics? The geusts are eating and drinking and the family and bridal party are taking photos?

@futurewiddy:  We had first dance and then sat down for dinner. I’ve seen people do the same or as you have it or put all the dances after dinner.
