- Wedding: May 2013
Im hoping for a little help with our wedding timeline. We will be getting married in Austin in early May 2013. Both Fiance and I are from Scotland so we’re having a little difficulty with Texan wedding culture/ heat/ sunlight knowledge for our planning!
Our ceremony/reception will both be at the same venue so no travelling between. Our ceremony & cocktail hour will both be outdoors. Ceremony under a beautiful shady tree 🙂
Most of our guetss will be flying in from Scotland so will have gone to a lot of effort/expense to join us. We want to show them a good time!
Sunset on our wedding date is set to be 8pm. Our venue is suggesting a 7pm ceremony time. Our ceremony will only be 15-20 mins and cocktail hour immediately to follow. Dinner reception would begin around 8.30-9. (we will do first dance/speeches/cake cutting after dinner). We are able to have the venue for up to 7 hours so a 7pm start could finish at 2am.
Some concerns of mine:
– Scottish weddings typically start much earlier & still go on well into the ‘wee hours’ so I don’t want our guests to feel that the whole evening is too short. However we don’t need to travel between venues so that’s a big plus.
– is 8.30-9pm too late for dinner to start?
– we could have a 6pm ceremony start but im worried that will be too HOT for guests to sit out?
– we will take photos for an hour pre-ceremony so a 7pm ceremony would mean 6pm photos which is probably nicer tempeeature/light for photographer? Will 5pm be too hot for us to be outside for photos then outside for ceremony etc too if we did a 6pm ceremony?
-is 2am too late for a finish? Should we finish at 1am and make it 6hours total instead?
Im sorry for the long post. These things get complicated & it’s a lot to balance with the food timing vs heat/light in Texas!
I appreciate any and all input!
