I’m feeling a bit of relief today ladies, and it’s a pretty good thing.
A bit of background to set the scene:
My guy and I have been together for a little over 2 years. We’ve been living together for over half of that time. Marriage has been brought up in the past, but more in the abstract. We haven’t been ring shopping or anything like that. Although he has dropped some hints, I’ve been getting antsy. All of this is magnified by the fact that he is finishing his PhD and looking for jobs in other cities – so in a month or so, we’ll be starting a year of long distance while I finish school.
I’ve had it pretty clear in my head that I won’t be moving out of state (or country!) to be with him, unless we are engaged. Time has been passing, and there’s been no real talk of timelines or anything like that, and it’s been driving me CRAZY.
Today over lunch, I truly verbalized for the first time that I won’t be moving anywhere unless we are engaged, and sort of hinted that I wish we talked about this stuff more. He was very receptive to what I had to say.
He said he would never expect me to move without us being engaged, and intends for that to be the case.
Also, in regards to the talking about stuff, he said he doesn’t want to diminish the surprise. He said “I think every woman deserves to have an awesome story to tell about how they got engaged.” 🙂 This was a very pleasant surprise to hear.
So now I’m feeling better about things. This is what I suspected he was thinking, but sometimes a girl has just gotta hear it, ya know? It looks like a loose timeline is in place for us – hopefully less than a year to go!
