In looking through reviews of various resorts, I see reviewers mentioning that they had to go to a presentation about buying a timeshare at the resort. Is that common? Is that avoidable? How do they really MAKE you go to these presentations? Would you recommend not going to a resort that would do this? Or is it just standard practice, par for the course, not a big deal?

Most resorts do this. You do not have to go, at all. You can either say “no thanks” and walk away quickly (my method); ofthen you can find a way not to cross their kiosk.
At our resort, once you attended a presentation, they gave you a bracelet, and the sales people had no right to speak with you again after. My friends did that, and when they left the resort (we were staying one more week), they gave us their bracelet… Maybe you can find a couple who has bracelets and are about to leave.. 🙂
