- Wedding: March 2013
So I’ve got 64 days left till I get married. I got my dress altered back in December because I wanted to take my bridal portraits before the weather got too cold. When I got my portraits done, we used a sheet but I think from walking around outside, my dress got dirty and it’s wrinkled pretty bad because it’s been hanging up in its bag in my closet.
I tried on my dress a week ago and I must have lost weight in my hips and gained weight in my chest or something isn’t right (maybe it’s because I didn’t clasp it at the top of the zipper) but when I breathed, I could hear the zipper coming down a little (not ripping though). I did try it on about 15 minutes after I got out of the shower so maybe my body temp was a little warm, who knows. I tried it on yesterday and the problem was resolved, but my dress was never bustled (my seamstress said that she could find the center of my train but not the center of my dress to bustle it to, so I’d have to just drape it over my hand. AWFUL). I can also grab some of the material near my waist, so I know that I need to go to another seamstress and have it fitted a second time.
My question is, should I clean it before I take it to get altered bc I don’t want the dirt to set in my dress and make it harder to get out. Only prob though is after I get it altered, it’s going to need to be pressed again before I wear it for the big day. Although cleaning is a different service than having it pressed right? What would you do in my situation? I’m thinking of going for my second fitting close to the end of February and the lady said it wouldn’t take her but 2 weeks to have everything ready. I’m not sure how long it takes at the cleaner/pressers though.
