Can you have passed appetizers from, say, 7:45 to 8:45?

@ticatica:  9:30 seems really late to me, but that doesn’t mean it’s not normal 😉

I think it would be helpful to know what your reception timeline is to decide when to serve dinner (open the buffet). Like what time do you want to do cake cutting, dances, toasts, etc… I think that may help you decide when to start dinner. Just from what you have posted I would think maybe opening the buffet sometime between 7:30 and 8:30.

Where are you getting married, Spain?  9:30 seems really late to me!  I’d open the buffet earlier.

I would do a 8-8:30pm dinner at the latest. That will be 5 hours since the start of dinner for your day guests. Anything over an hour or so without food is kinda long unless you specifically mention to your evening guests that dinner won’t be served until 9:30pm. Since it’s a buffet the day guests will probably just eat a bit less.

Just for clarification, you have both a day and evening reception with the day guests joining in the evening reception? That’s interesting! Never seen that done before!

I think that it is a great idea to have some sort of snack on the table (even if it is just nuts) if people are drinking for that long between meals.  I’d be more concerned about the guests that had been drinking all day, than those that just arrived.  Also, talk with your wedding coordinator about serving dinner at 8:30 or even 9:00.  2 hours is just a loooong time after arrival to start serving food.
