So all the money he is asking for for his services for both bachelorette party and wedding day is going right into his picket since he doesn’t work for a company. His bus is his own. Do we still have to tip him? I’ve never rented a limo and ESP cuz he’s my friend I just don’t know what to do.

I would… he is still sacrificing his own time to help you out! or buy him a gift of some sort… (considering he is your friend)

@pokergirl84: I never knew you had to tip a limo driver anyways? But Ive never rented one either…

YES!!! You should certainly tip him at least 20% of the total bill. If he does something really special for you and your group, or if you or someone in your group does something really bad (like vomit in the limo) tip him more (and clean it up, lol). I think if we have rented a limo for 4 hours, we usually tip $200. If someone messes up the limo (it happens) then we just give him a little extra like maybe $20. I’m really big on tipping though, so that may be a little high.
Any discount he gives you for being a friend would come off of the actual bill, which would in turn make your tip less. Any discounts would not come out of the tip.

I’ll also add that although gifts are a nice gesture, he should be tipped in cash.

I say yes. Regardless if he owns the vehicle or not, he is still performing a service for you. If he does a good job, tip him.

The rule of thumb is if they own their own business you don’t have to tip them for the exact reason you said. However, I always tip them if their service was excellent.

Usually you do not tip the owner of a business which your friend seems to fall under. If I were in your position though I would get him a thoughtful gift to thank him for being part of your day.
