So, what’s the deal with tipping? Who do you tip and how much are you suppose to tip?
Tent/chair/table rental company?
We’re on a tight budget, so we can’t be too generous, but I want to be polite and do the right thing.

First of all, read your contracts to make sure the tip isn’t already built into the price. No need to tip twice! Secondly, you never have to tip someone who is self-employed because they are keeping 100% of the money you’re giving them anyway. Here’s my opinion about all the vendors you mentioned (assuming none of them are self-employed)…
Rental company – no tip required
Hair/makeup – 15% same as any hair salon
Minister – tips discouraged, donations to church are better
Alterations – $20
Photographer – $30
Also, here’s a good resource I found on tipping:

I was thinking about doing something similar.
Make Up Artist and Hair – 15%
Limo – Built into contract price
Caterer and servers – Built into contract price
Bartenders provided by the venue – probably something really small
DJ – Something small like $50
Pastor – Donation to church
Photographer and other shooters – not sure
