Our venue provides an on-site catering service. The bill/estimate they have given us includes 10% gratuity – most venues in our area charge a 20% service charge for all catering fees.
I asked our venue coordinator if it was customary to tip in addition to the included gratuity and she said it was entirely at our discretion and that some do, some don’t. Our venue is a college campus, so I suspect the wait staff may be paid more than regular waiters. In addition, college management is not allowed to accept any gratuity (i.e., our venue coordinator, ceremony coordinator, and banquet manager), so the 10% is distributed evenly among all the wait/bar staff and none is taken off the top.
Would you tip in addition to the included 10%? We are on a very tight budget, but at the same time I don’t want to be rude. Thanks!
