- Wedding: September 2010
I’m trying to work out who to tip, and so far I have:
Officiant, DJ, ceremony musicians – all friends who are doing this as a favor/our wedding gift, so no tip.
Bartenders – 20% service fee included in beverage package (as a side note, I noticed that our venue charges 9.25% sales tax on the service fee. Is this allowed?? It’s like taxing the tip… but I didn’t have the energy to fight it, since it looks like this is a standard form for them.)
Catering Staff (separate from the venue) – service fee is included in price of catering. (They cut this down to 8% of the total food + staff + rentals bill to accommodate our budget, but it’s still a hefty ~700 dollars). The caterers bring in an outside rental company. Do we need to take care of the tip for the delivery guy?
Photographer – owner, no tip. But he’s getting a full guest meal (not the usual vendor box).
Cake Baker – owner, no tip (she will deliver and setup herself, and she described her price as “all inclusive”).
Flowers – we’re only doing personal flowers, which we’ll pick up from the flower shop the day before, so no tip.
Seamstress – owner, so no tip.
Make-Up/Hair – She works at a salon. I didn’t tip for the 120 dollar trial (I forgot/didn’t know), planning to tip 50 on the 220 wedding makeup/hair (a little over 20%).
Day-of Coordinator – no tip expected? (She works as one of the three venue coordinators, but we are paying her extra to do Day-of coordination duties as well. Not sure what the presence of the other coordinators are for, actually, since it seems like the caterers take care of most of the service.)
Parking attendant(s) – maybe 50? The venue is self-park, but there will be one attendant on hand per 50 cars (we expect about 100 people total), presumably to keep riff-raff out of the lot and maybe direct traffic. What’s the policy on parking attendants who don’t actually valet?
I’m also planning to send thank-you notes to the various vendors. Does this seem reasonable? Obviously I want to tip appropriately, but I’m also on a tight budget…
