There is a significant variety of cushion cuts, including cushion modified brilliant and cushion brilliant, so if you are particularly, it’s best to narrow down which types of cushions you like. For example, cushion modified brilliants have that crushed glass look and are more common. Most cushions you see at a regular store are cushion modified brilliants. Cushion brilliants are cut more like a round brilliant and throw out larger, chunkier flashes of light. Cushion brilliants are not as common. Both are nice; it depends entirely on personal preference.

In addition, cushions really do vary quite a bit between each stone so it’s difficult to tell from measurements alone whether it will appeal to you or not. As such, it is best to see a cushion in person. Your next best bet is to see a video of it. Photos may be fine as well. I personally wouldn’t buy a cushion sight unseen but I’m on the pickier side.

Here are some links that I think do a good job of explaining the varieties of cushion cuts.

I have a cushion. I doubt I’ll be very helpful but I will tell you what I know!

try the info on blue nile’s website to learn more about the “Four C’s” for choosing your diamond.

from what I’ve noticed and heard from others, cushions tend to be a little less sparkly than round diamonds in direct sunlight. Also, while looking for the perfect ring, my Fiance and I went to several stores. The very last one mentioned that cushions actually come in different shapes (it all depends on the diamonds dimensions) I was so happy he told me that, I was getting so confused because every time I looked at cushion diamonds each one looked different from the last!

Good luck!!
