I had huge problems learning to swallow tablets too, and I have a really super sensitive gag reflex.

Don’t laugh now, but I learned to do it by practicing with bread. Yeah. It’s soft and easier to swallow when practising, so just try it.

I started off with the teeniest piece of bread ever, and took huge mouthfuls of water to try and wash it down. The speck of bread was so tiny that I found the trick was tilting my head back and swalling the water as if my fake bread-tablet wasn’t there at all. I then used slightly larger bits of bread until I was up to the size of my tablets.

Good luck xxx

I put loads of water in my mouth first & pop the pill in then swallow. Its works alot better this way for me.

@SapphireSun:  pointing your toes?  That’s so interesting, will have to try that!

I always drink some water first to wet my mouth.  Put the pill in and take a huge gulp of water!  Don’t think about trying to swallow the pill, I find that just makes things worse as I get all nervous.

I have to take pills with soda instead of water.  The carbonation distracts me enough that I can get the pill down.  With water, I only swallow the water, and the pill stays in my mouth.

I put the pill under my tongue, then take a big swig of Diet Coke.

Okay, I am re-viving this because I’m feeling really embaressed/desparate.  I am trying to learn to swallow a daily pill…. its really really tiny.  I’ve successfully taken one for the last 5 days, once without water, twice on the first attempt with water, but I’ve gone through about 66 in total – ruinining most of them by trying to many times causing them to nearly split in half.  I haven’t managed to swallow one yet today.

I was hoping that once I did it a few times it would just be automatic.  I feel like a crazy person.

I always put the pills on the very very back of my tongue and chug some water so it doesn’t get stuck and I don’t have to taste it. Goes right down as opposed to just putting it in the middle of your tongue or swallowing dry

For our elderly patients who have trouble swallowing we recommend taking the pills with applesauce or something similar. I just put some water in my mouth, throw the pills in and swallow! My mom can’t put water in her mouth first… it all depends on the person.

Put it in a teaspoon of jam or applesauce or some other easy to swallow thing. Thats how I started and then I slowly reduced the amount of carrier food until I could handle the pill.
