daniellemc :  it’s just a quick exam. You may even be able to see if yourself with a mirror depending on the size (and how bendy you are lol). Basically it’s just a cut along your anus. The first time it happened to me the doctor diagnosed it, but since I can tell what it is myself. I never had a real sitz bath setup for the toilet so I just fill up the tub with a few inches of water and sit in it to help it heal. Definitely keep the stool softeners going until it’s healed and avoid any foods that might upset your digestion.

It was quick. They had a visual look and inserted a gloved finger inside. It was ok other than the embarrassment (although of course the nurse was completely unperturbed!)

I have no medical advice. However! There are these gel packs you can buy on Amazon that work like a glow stick where you break them apart and they get super cold. Buy a box of these and whenever you have to go hold it over that area until it numbs it. You can also hold it on your lady bits and apply pressure while you go so that it hurts less.

daniellemc :  I’m sorry you’re dealing with this still. Have you tried the dermoplast spray in the blue can? It might help numb things up a little before/after a bowel movement.

Definitely go get checked out! In the meantime ask if you can use that canned spray. I forget its name but it helps temporarily numb the place so you can go to the bathroom easier. I relied on this stuff for probably a month after my baby since I had a tear and did not want it to hurt going to the bathroom in either direction. I think it was a blue can I used. Online reviews said the red one burns 🙁  But make sure your doctor agrees its a good idea. Obviously I am no doctor and wouldn’t want you to get injured worse.

Edit: Dermoplast… thanks Westwood! I should read all replies lol

daniellemc :  hope it helps! It was honestly a godsend for me. If there is a next baby in my future I am totally using it again lol.
