Guys I’m kind of freaking out!
Short Backstory: About 5 years ago, My OBGYN found ‘precancerous cells’ and had me do a LEEP to remove them. That’s all I was told, and I didn’t read into it since he told me it was a super common thing and no biggie at all. FF to about a year ago, I finally learned what that mean. HPV. I am FURIOUS with my doctor for not actually explaining that to me!
Anyway, I have done tons of research and no longer worry about that side. I’ve learned that’s the high risk kind, and the low risk kind causes warts, which I’ve never had. Paps have been coming back normal so I haven’t stressed.
Well. About a month or so ago I noticed a teeny tiny thing on my labia. It was barely noticable, flat, just slightly raised and when I stretched the skin, it ‘disappeared’. Figured it was a tag, or a scar from a shaving nick, irritated skin from catching on my jeans, or something. Well it’s STILL there. Last night I messed with it thinking it was maybe an ingrown or something, and it swole up. It does not however hurt, itch, irritate me or ANYTHING. This morning it’s pretty obvious. Like a teeny little skin colored bump sitting on my labia majora, right on the edge between the outer side and inner side. It has no pore. Cannot be popped. But looks NOTHING like the HPV warts I’ve been researching.
I have an appt next week to have it looked at, but in the mean time, I have read every article and looked at every picture I can find and I CANNOT figure out if that’s what it is or not?! I’m LITERALLY FREAKING OUT. I just finalized my divorce (good thing) and am ‘back on the market’ and now I maybe have warts?!
Anyone with advice? Tips? Experience? Is this the official end of my romantic life as I know it? Is there anything OTC I can put on it? I want it GOOOONE.

Please don’t stress. You’re seeing a doctor to get tested and that’s great. Chances are that it’s nothing, but even if it is something – it absolutely isn’t the end of your romantic life. I know several women that have HPV and it’s never impacted their dating life at all. Also – 80% of people contract HPV at some point in their life. In most situations with HPV there are one or two outbreaks and then your body gets rid of it or it becomes dormant – which means you have no symptoms, it can’t be tested, and it can’t be passed on.

wolfeyes : Yes, I’ve read all that. I at one point freaked over the initial HPV, but since it wasn’t warts and knew the stats, I didn’t sweat it. But now it’s become ‘real’, so I’m starting the process all over again 🙁
Anyway, I’ll find out next week for sure I guess, and I know it can be removed, I just feel like now I’ll have no way of knowing if/when it goes dormant, and I’ll be worried about passing it around (not that I’m out to sleep with a million guys, but all the articles have told me condoms don’t really prevent transmission very well.)

underling123 : I remember i had a friend who thought she had a wart and when she went to get it checked out it turned out to be a mulluscum (spelling anyone?). Could be that this isnt a wart afterall but definitely get it checked.

latebloomerbee78 : Yeah, it could be I suppose. It looks nothing like those pictures I’ve seen either. It’s just very odd. I read a doctor post that said that if it stretches out with the skin, it’s not a wart. Well, before I messed with it, it DID stretch out with the skin. Now that it’s all inflamed it does not. I have no idea. I’m half nervous about the doctor. I’ve read posts where people had a bump checked by a couple doctors and one said it was a wart and one said it wasn’t.
I wish they’d figure out this darn HPV thing. There are so many open ended questions. Nobody really knows what the heck is actually going on.

Most likely molluscum. They are contagious, a part of the pox family. Generally they will clear up on their own, but you can have them frozen off by a doctor or derm. Warning, they may come back, especially if you nick them shaving.

Agreed that it could be molloscum. I got it a couple years ago after getting waxed and it was EXTREMELY frustrating. I also thought it was just a skin tag, didn’t itch or hurt so I plucked it and then it just spread. Not to freak you out but definitely go back in and get checked out. Personally, it took almost a year for mine to go away. At first I tried just doing home remedies but it only went away after I went in and got some prescription cream.
