How long do you have the tampon in before it leaks?

ETA:  On the heaviest days of my period, I have to use ultra tampons (one step higher than super) and have to change them ever 1.5 hours – 2 hours max (they start leaking at 2).  Super tampons would probably last me an hour.  I’ve heard it’s considered heavy flow if you are changing full tampons after an hour.  Any more frequent than that, I’d call the doc to play it safe…. especially because this heavy flow is sudden and different for you.  My heavy periods started all of a sudden but are now all the time (they weren’t always this way).

Wow, that’s kinda scary, especially if you’ve not experienced this before. It may be a fluke — that happens sometimes — but if nothing else, losing that much blood could make you anemic, so it’s probably a good idea to make a doctor’s visit if you can. 🙁 I don’t know anything about Paraguard, but my extremely heavy bleeding was the reason I started BC when I did.

@missfireflower:  If it happens often ask your doctor for a Lysteda script. I take it and it helps.

I have the Paraguard IUD as well. How long have you had it in?

@gemstone:  Its a medication that helps lighten your period. My period is really heavy day 1 and 2 and it makes it normal. I posted this exact post a few months ago and another bee told me she had just started taking it as well.

@soladylike:  Oh wow! That’s so good to know in case I ever need to go off BC for any reason. Any weird side effects?

@gemstone:  Nope none at all for me. I only take them the two days that I need it. I was on the pill too for a few years to help with my cycle. I researched and found Lysteda. I talked to my OBGYN about it about 5 months ago I guess and things have been fine. I want to have a baby soon and wanted a few years with no birth control in my body before TTC.

I would be concerned and I would monitor the situation carefully but I wouldn’t freak out yet. Once you’re home, I’d try to get off your feet and take it easy, and make sure you’re well hydrated. If by mid-morning tomorrow things haven’t slowed, I’d call the doctor and ask for advice.
