Seriously, I am honestly curious. I am in no way saying what’s right or wrong for anyone. I don’t care if you look like a baby or a bear. This is all about ME. 🙂 And how sometimes it’d be nice to slack on shaving once a month and not have pee everywhere. 🙁 I feel like I’m missing something… or is this just normal and I never had to deal with it? Explaination to follow…
I pretty much was driven crazy by the itchiness of pubic hair and shaved with an electric women’s razor from about 15 until now at 37 and plan on continue to do so (leaving a short landing strip/triangle). The discovery of the electric razor was pretty embarassing but funny. My dad spent 25 minutes in the bathroom like clockwork at night. So while he was in the bathroom this night I talked to my mom about the hair that had grown in pretty much as it ever would. “It itches” and “it’s gross when I pee, it gets all wet”… etc. Then my dad comes out of the bathroom and goes “So shave it if you want.” off hand like “Do you want more mashed potatoes” at dinner. It was embarassing at that age cause puberty and I didn’t think he could hear! But my mom is about useless (but at the time it seemed like a girl thing) and my dad is always a source of logic (plus he did the birds/bees talk). So silly me shaved with a disposable razor (ouch) and I told him that didn’t work out real well… so he told me about electrics and I got to pick out one for my birthday (like a month away). So while it was embarassing, it really fit family dynamics and had a happy ending. I included this whole story for smiles when you read this :).
The only time I didn’t shave down below was when I had the Depo shot and I bled like a oozing pig, not enough for a tampon and everything was thoroughly gross and I slept every minute I didn’t work for almost a year before things (sleep and bleeding) got back to normal… plus my hormones were out of whack… thank goodness I wasn’t involved or having sex at the time cause I was NOT interested in anything but sleep and going to work to pay the bills… even my boss (a very cool older lady asked if I wanted to talk about what was up and I did tell her) and I was working warehouse at the time.
Basically (finally!) to the point my question is, how do you keep pubic hair from getting soaked in pee? I shave about once a month, usually just before my period some times during. But I got lazy last month and figured I’d just wait two months. At a month and a half it was everything I remember from puberty. It itched like crazy, but that usually starts about the time I usually shave anyway… figured I just wasn’t used to it. But at a month and a half when I peed it seemed to distribute to every edge of the hair. Bleh, I fully acknowledge that this may just be me and my inexperience at having more than a month worth of “bush”. It’s like five wipes to even feel like I get all the moisture… and then I feel like I need a bath/shower and wasted toilet paper. I feel like I am obviously missing something. This is NOT meant to be offensive or disparaging of anyone who doesn’t shave, but more asking advice. How do you pee and have it not feel like it’s everywhere? Or are my girl parts just broken with hair? I mean I know some women never shave or have shaved ever, so there must be a way. As I said this is NOT insulting or disparaging to them… but a “What am I missing” question! Or is it just you’re used to it? (still do NOT mean offense what so ever!).
And yes, I really know I run on when typing… I get that. I hope if nothing else you find it amusing (even if it’s at my expense I’m fine with that!).

I’m actually fascinated to see how people respond to this. I can’t help you myself as I’ve waxed for as long as I can remember, and it has never occurred to me that such a thing might be an issue for people who don’t. I’m curiously awaiting some more responses.
ETA: And it sounds like your body liked depo about as much as mine did!

Every woman is different in many ways. And im sure there are women out there who have the same experience as you.
I honestly have never had a problem with getting wee ‘everywhere’. I do wax, so it lasts a lot longer than shaving. I do get lazy over winter, (not going the beach so don’t need as much maintenance.) Even in my lazy months I don’t seem to have a problem.
I have seen in the supermarkets Kleenex have bought out flushable wet ones. Maybe give them ago, it may make you feel cleaner and fresher after using the bathroom. Maybe contact Kleenex and see if they’ll send you a free sample?
I would also suggest waxing, you will find you get alot less irritation. I used to shave when i was younger, i have now been waxing for 7 years and it is so much better. The hair thins out, it doesn’t get itchy when growing back, providing you exfoliate regularly. Or if you really want to get reduce the hair try laser or IPL.

@MrsTangerine: I hate pubic hair for the same reasons as you!! It’s so gross and you always smell more strongly and it holds urine and urine odor. ICK ICK ICK.
That being said, when you are an overweight gal to begin with and you are 7 1/2 months pregnant.. there ain’t a lot you can do about shaving your nether regions, so needless to say sasquatch has entered the building and I always feel dirty and gross, but what’s a gal to do? I tried convincing my FH to shave it for me but he is scared he’ll chop something off on accident, so I’m stuck with it until I have the baby or until I get desperate enough to pay someone to rip it out O.o

I never noticed a problem with pee but I keep mine groomed. I started shaving though because when I was at that age of puberty I hated having my period with the public hair. My mother would NEVER allow me to shave down there. I just figured it out on my own. Never looked back since lol

but really I don’t see how it gets that wet, just trim it if it’s getting longer. Also that hair down there is waterproof, water rolls off it like off a duck’s back so I dunno if it’s relaly as wet as you thnk or whether you have gotten a bit paranoid about it.
Anyway yeh, just trim it. Buy a pair of sharp small scissors and lop off those extra long bits. That’s what I do now as I can’t see mine anymore to shave due to this giant baby in my belly.

I like the story about your dad!
Just use the lowest guard on the electric shaver- if you are doing that there should be hardly anything left to get “wet”.

@marzipanda: Well, for some more Too Much Information, I wipe and if part of my hand touches the hair it comes away with liquid on it lol… so I’m pretty sure I’m not imagining it. 🙂 Which never seems to happen normally if I touch any nearby skin. Not like soaking wet, but droplets.
@LeahTron: I figured even if I was in the minority I couldn’t be the only one, there’s too many people out there for that. 🙂

lol, that story with your dad is great. that’s amazing what a open relationship you have with him. i actually never did anything about the hair down there until within the last year or 2, but i just way the front portion and trim the rest. I guess I’m pretty lucky that there isn’t that much growth there. I mean, I can count and easily get the few strands that managed to grow.

I find that when I DO shave/wax it all off the pee goes EVERYWHERE!!! It’s like there’s no hair to guide it where it needs to go or something. I seriously end up spraying pee all over the place – it’s so weird. When I have some hair down there the pee seems to go right in the direction it’s supposed to.

I usually shave on a pretty regular basis, but there has been several times I let the hair grow out to it’s full length. I have never had an issue with the hair getting soaked in urine. The hair grows on either side and when I pee it just flows straight down through the middle hairless part and avoids the hair.

Honestly, I rarely shave. Like, I’ll trim every now and then when I think it’s getting out of hand, but for the most part I leave it alone. I have never had a problem with what you’re talking about. I’m assuming the droplets you’re talking about got there before you wiped, not after.

I don’t shave down there at all, just my bikini lines during the summer. I might trim now and then and that is all. I find the younger generations dislike of pubic hair to rather disturbing – I grew up during a time when liberated women were encouraged to embrace their bodies. The few times I tried shaving, the stubble was extremely uncomfortable and I said never again. And waxing? No freaking way.
That being said, I never had an issue with peeing. I simply wipe and use baby wipes afterwards and feel fresh. FH has never complained!

I don’t think I can help you, I trim but even when I don’t trim, I don’t have this problem. It maybe an odd suggestion, but maybe its the way you’re sitting on the toilet?

@trueblue14: +1 this new school distain of pubic hair is distrubing.
I’ve never had this issue.
