Why did you jump directly to cancer? I had this a summer or two ago, red blood, and it was that I had an internal hemi that ruptured. Who knew! I didn’t have any pain or anything weird except some streaks of blood, I’ve never had kids, so I guess I just got it from pushing really hard at some point lol. I HIGHLY Doubt that having bright red blood = colon cancer. Typically if there are dark stains etc that would be more indicative of something serious from what I remember. Just go to the dr, don’t freak!

just out of curiosity–did any of you consume red foods prior to the “blood” in your stool? i only ask because i went one time and had the same issue and FREAKED out, only to remember that i had beets just the day before and it colors your stool and sometimes your urine.

@embarrassed99:  LOL it would probably help to first rule out the LEAST worst case scenario before jumping to cancer ๐Ÿ™‚

I went to a GI provider who said she was sure everything was fine using a little scope she had, but wanted to double check and do a colonoscopy. If you have IBS maybe you’ve had one before, but if not, and they want you to do one just to rule it out, I will tell you its probably the easiest procedure on earth. Don’t worry so much and go one day at a time!

mine was RED, not purple–it can vary.  I just think it’s extremely close in proximity to the time you noticed the coloring and the time you had beets. Just seems like too much of a coindence. By The Way, blood in stools typically many times appear black, not red.  either way, i would keep an eye on it, but would try not to panic. unless you’re over the age of 70, it’s pretty rare for women.

it could be a hemmeroid. they’d cause bloody stool. i get them from time to time, so does my Fiance.

go to the doctor, have a colonoscopy. i doubt it’s colon cancer. it’s probably just a hemmeroid or something.

the “cloud” comes from the dye in the beets.. if it was blood, it would be IN the actual stool (and it would be bright red or black, like tar).

@embarrassed99:  i didn’t know when i had the first one. i remember going to the bathroom and seeing blood. and freaking out. cause it was a lot of blood. i went to the ER and they told me it was no big deal. it healed on its own. every so often, i have a flare up. but the only symptom i ever have is blood in the toilet and in my stool.
