My husband and I eloped. We have no regrets! It was awesome and such an incredible experience! We had so much fun – we had this great little secret for a day and it was euphoric. 🙂
I might be wrong, but I think if you get married in France, you still have to get married in the US to make it legal. So if that’s the case, why not have your small ceremony here, then the two of you fly to France for your “just us” thing (or in reverse).
We had a private wedding ceremony where we live and then a separate wedding celebration with family and friends months later. The private ceremony was more meaningful for the two of us and much less stressful than the celebration. I don’t regret it and would definitely recommend a “just us” ceremony to other couples.
Sorry not sure if I have any advice but just wanted to say I Have been contemplating the same thing. Part of me wants to elope, but part of me feels like I would be sad without my close friends and family there to celebrate with…Because it’s a moment you can’t get back or do over in my opinion. There so much to consider, and it sounds lime you are leaning towards your France plans. If that’s the case I guess you’ll have to let us all know how you came to terms with not having your closest people there with you!
We got married at the jail (it was a holiday so the courthouse was closed) with a bulletproof window between us and the magistrate. Later we had a non-legal ceremony in front of family and friends. Honestly, the real wedding in the jail with just the two of us was so much better than the other ceremony. It was so sweet and so special because it was just about us, getting married.
