No–unless there was a really good reason (9 months pregnant, had a newborn, deployed, estranged, or sleeping with the groom). Why do you ask?

It depends on your relationship – if you’re close, why not? But the fact that you must ask means you have reservations…care to share?

Find out if the parents made her. If they did, then drop out and say that you would rather have someone else stand up for her. It might be a relief for her. If not, then stick with it.

Don’t feel obligated to ask anyone you don’t feel that close to; I have 4 sisters and none of them are in (or attending) my wedding because of other obligations. With all the terrible posts about wedding parties gone wrong, perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to consider a close friend who would be honored to be at your side…
