My original ring was a 6 claw setting, quite high and cathedral set.

I was swayed at the time by its prettiness.

I have scratched myself silly with that darn ring, and now, 2.5 years later have just had a custom bezel set made.

I LOVE it. No snags, it is modern and gorgeous, it protects the stone and is just generally fabulous.

I say GO BEZEL!

can I ask what does the non bezel look like?  and what is the budget you guys are trying to stay under for the setting part, not the diamond part?

how large is the center stone?  the photo is of a princess or a round?  If that stone is a .50ct, that setting will not be too high and it looks to have plenty of prong.  Be sure that the prongs you get are big enough to creat a LIP over the edges and you should be fine with it…you don’t need a bezel setting if you have one made this solidly.  I don’t love diamonds on the underprongs but its just not my style, but you can request that they PLUG any little diamondwork you may not want when making the mounting…just an idea.  if it is a princess cut, make sure it is a V prong setting, regular prongs may cause tension of the square tips to chip inside the ring over time.

what about this bezel, it sits higher for a wedding band, and looks more cathedral like.

Even though you’d have to order from NY, jewelers here will ship internationally and I think 1000 pounds is a fine budget for a ring like this or the other one you like.  Email Justice of the Peace Diamonds Inc.  I know I advertise them a lot but Dinesh works in the same office as a diamond supplier and ships rings all over the world because he sells settings.  His email is [email protected] and you can google the business as well

but I would suggest a ring like this instead, where there is a basket under the diamond securing it in and making the prongs stronger because they are attached to more metal…this is more a Harry Winston Style ring, and can be made for a .33ct or a .50ct so you can afford a beautiful stone with a GIA cert AND the mounting same price
