My life has been exciting this past year and I am seriously considering starting a blog musing on changes as I get older. However!! I am concerned on how to blog without giving too much information about who I am. Does anyone have any insight or experiences?
I think a lot of concern has to do with my boyfriend. He is in an image-concentrated career and I wouldn’t want to draw unnecessary attention to him or myself. Then again, perhaps I could make it positive.
PR thoughts? 🙂

Do you want family/friends or anybody who knows you in real life to have access to the blog? Will you reveal your real name, your location, your picture? Will you have things like a twitter or facebook account in your real name linked to it? And how would your boyfriend feel about using his real name, his picture, etc?
It is possible to blog in a very anonymous fashion, if you feel that’s what will protect your boyfriend’s career the best. Use pseudonyms for everyone you write about, be very vague about the city you live in, and don’t put up personal pictures. However, realize that as you connect to people who read your blog, your identity can slip out more and more.
I’d say if you want to do it, keep in close touch with your boyfriend about what you’re writing and how you’re writing it, to make sure he feels comfortable with the amount of information shared.

I have a blog and at first, I kept it pretty anonymous. I didn’t say where I lived or anything TOO personal on the site. The only thing that would’ve given it away is that I used the same screen name as I do on several forums.
It’s only been in the last couple of weeks that I put a DRAWING of my face on my blog (it’s in a pretty conspicuous place). I’m slowly but surely probably going to make it more and more personal.
Do things at your own pace and keep in close contact with your boyfriend to determine how much is too much.

No one in real life- other than my best friend and fiance know about my blog. I just keep it on on the down low. I just use my first name which is pretty common. I love blogging, so I’d highly recommend it. :o)

A family member of mind had a pretty high-profile blog a while back. She was totally anonymous for the most part. The only people who knew her real name/identity were her super close friends and family. She did say the city she lived in (but it’s a huge one, so that didn’t narrow it down much), but other than that, she didn’t give up any other personal deets. She used a pseudo name, too. Honestly, if she wanted to, she could have kept it a secret from everyone.

The great thing about a blog is that you can do it however you want
Short awnser is: yes…you can blog and still keep a level of privacy
Take Mrs Avo for example. She has a blog and tell us ALL about herself. Yet she doesn’t use her husband’s name. She simply calls him “That Husband”
There are so many options
You can use a fake name and never give your real name. For example: My blog is “cheapwife”. now I have choosen to use my name so many people know my name…BUT I could have choosed to just call myself CW when I write.
There are ways that you can talk about things but still be private.
You can also choose to self edit. I have a mom and stepmom who read my blg. It kinda sucks because it prevents me from talkign about anything and everything. I only post something that I wouldn’t mind being read by everything
You can also set your blog to be “by invite only” this you could keep it as private as you want.
You can not tell anyone that you are blogging in your real life
Yes…there are so many ways to blog and still be able to not give details about your man…or too many details about yourself
Blogging is great. Do it! 🙂
