I’m totally in love with the Casablanca 1995! I found a sample for $500 but I’m debating whether or not to buy it straight from the bridal salon new or just get the sample. I got a quote for $950 (tax included) for a size 6 dress not sure if they’ll tailor it to my height ( 5’4 + 3 inch heels = 5’7). The sample I’m getting will need the following fixes:
– pulled in 2 inches from the bust and 1 inch from the hips. The dress is a size 8 one size too big ( I’m a size 6 which fit perfectly although a bit snug when sitting but gives me GREAT posture. I’m planning to lose some weight by next year so it may be perfect). If I alter it, would it still fit nicely? Should I consider added an inner corset? (How much would that cost?)
– hemming at the bottom (with the intricate lace applique..will be pricey!)
– cleaning (another $120 bucks)
Here are my guess-taments since none of the alteration places will give me a price quote over the phone without the dress in hand ( Please correct if this is wrong..I’m in LA area):
$ 500 – dress
$ 120 – cleaning
$ 150 – inner corset + taking in sides and hips
$ 200 – hem
With the dress purchased new from the store:
$950 – size 6 (fit perfect)
( + $200 – maybe needed for hem if dress doesn’t come to my height or I end up getting a size 8 anyways).
I dunno what to do? Should I try to get the sample cheaper? Is it worth the investment? I could potentially save a few hundred bucks or maybe spending the same. Ahhh!!
