Our wedding ceremony is at 2pm and our 3 course meal will be at 5.00ish. Now i thought that it would be a nice gesture to offer Canape’s and champagne at 3pm while photographs were being taken, as its quite a while in my eyes, to wait for food. considering some people may not have eaten since 12 or 1 o clock.
But i spoke to the venue yesterday, and i am using their catering, and it really surprised me that she was so honest…..you’d think she would have jumped at the chance to get more money out of us, but she said that in her experience, if we serve Canape’s, they tend to leave their meal a lot of the time. and the meal is costing us around £65 per person so i dont really want to waste it.
So what do you think? is it a long time to wait for food? or maybe i can just offer the champagne with strawberries as they wont be too filling, but it is just a little something while they wait for the meal to be served?

@Sprinkled with fairydust: I agree with you. I think you should offer something. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. A cheese board with assorted crackers… or maybe a couple passed hor d’oeuvres, I like the strawberries and chamagne idea too.

Because you have a gap, you need something for your guests. At the bare minimum, go with fruit and veggie platters which are light enough so that your guests won’t get too stuffed for dinner, but also shows that you care about their comfort.

thank you girls….
i have been to weddings and had to wait for a few hours, so i always said that i wouldnt do that to my guests……it really seems like we dont care about our guests to leave them so long…..
i will definately be serving the strawberries and champagne, but i also like the cheese and crackers idea too, again, not too heavy but just something to stop people passing out with hunger…

I have had to wait several hours at weddings before, and we’ve hit the hot dog joint or whatever, but it would be a very nice gesture to have something for your guests during that time 🙂
