Hey, so we are starting to recieve a few checks even though the wedding is still about 3 months aways. Should I cash the check now, and write the thank you note with all the others after the wedding? Or should I write a thank you note now before I cash the check? Or should I just wait to cash the check?
What do you think?

I would cash it now and send a thank you note now. You don’t want someone to forget about it and it hits their bank in three months time, or they might get paranoid it got lost in the mail. On the thank you card put something like “can’t wait to see you at the wedding!”

Cash it now and write the thank you note now. It’ll be one less to write later, anyway!

We wrote them a thank you note so they knew we received the check and waited until after the wedding to cash all of our checks.

I agree with the PPs. You should write the thank you now so that they know you’ve received the check, and cash it so you don’t mess up their book keeping

I agree. Cash now, thank now!

We wrote thank you notes as we received the gifts, (except the ones we got right before the wedding). I would also deposite the check now so it doesn’t mess up the giver’s bookkeeping.

I agree with PPs. Most people (myself included) don’t like to have checks out uncashed for a long time. I’m sure they knew they were sending early and were obviously ok with you getting it and cashing it now, otherwise they would have waited 🙂 And definitely send the thank you right away!

You should always cash the cheque now. It is not polite to monkey about with people’s finances and book keeping.
You should always thank gift givers as promptly as possible, with the gold standard being getting the card in the mail before you go to sleep on the night it is received.
