I just have to say, you have such a beautiful face (and hair)!  How short have you had your hair before?  I pretty much always have a freak out after I cut my hair but it’s always for the better.  Do you use a clarifying shampoo, that might cut down on the build up that makes it “ratty”? (I started doing that and my hair is healthier–less pain when brushing)  My hair has been ratty in the past when it gets long and it huuuurts so much to brush it.  Are you looking to donate?  You could always just get it cut a few inches below your chin/around the shoulder and I’m positive you’d still look beautiful!

chop off a foot and donate it! I’ve done it before and it totally takes the sting out of losing all your hair. plus, you don’t fully realize how damaged your hair is until you cut it and it looks sooo healthy. you have a ton of hair, even with losing a foot it would be shoulder length.

keep most of the length but add some layers for volume, im so jealous of your hair, my hair is long and nappy, and it gets really tangly and matted if i sleep on it, if i had hair like yours i would definitely incorporate some face framing pieces and some long layers in the back πŸ™‚

If your hair is getting tangles in it a cut can help out with that.

I wish I had your hair, it really is beautiful, but maybe 4 inches or so and some long layers would do the trick.

How often have you trimmed your hair?  I have long hair as well, about the same length as yours.  I have to trim mine about 4 times a year in order to keep it from tangling and splitting.  I haven’t been keeping up with it lately and I really can tell because it’s splitting and tangles up a lot.

I think that if I were you I would cut it to just above the shoulder length, it will give your hair a lot of movement and volume, and cut your maintenance down by a ton. As a bonus, for some people (like me) cutting a large volume of hair off will decrease headaches! Plus, even if you don’t like it, it will grow back!

I cut mine to my shoulder blade and was amazed at how light my head felt.  I had forgotten that hair was so heavy.  I like you with long hair, but getting some of the length taken off will keep it health and help the tangling problem.

I vote not to cut off a lot because everytime I cut my hair I miss my hair so much! I would say maybe 2-3″ would be good and if you dont already use good salon (or from sallys) shampoo & conditiner it will make a HUGE difference.

I think that you should get it cut, but still keep it long-ish. Your hair is so pretty it’d be a shame to chop it all off! But, I feel like there is a point where long hair is TOO long and kind of loses a style. I’d maybe get it chopped to about where your bra hits on your back, and then add just some layers around your face.

@bestbuddies:  I’ve found the best success with herbal essences degunkify (green bottle) and it smells absolutely amazing.  I alternate between biolage/tre semme/herbal essences.  I tried suave clarifying but it still leaves a weird feeling in my hair.  Also, I’d only condition a couple of times a week.  Honestly, I’d look at varying lengths around your shoulder and try a side part.  Seriously, your face is what I wish mine is (my ideal) but sadly I have a weird face shape…I’m sorry if that’s weird?

Also:  I alternate every three days with the clarifying shampoo but my hair stylist said that once a week is plenty unless you have trouble with oil/build up.

I would do long layers in your hair for sure.  I have them and you can’t really tell that I have them, it just makes my hair wavier.
