So I’m getting married at a beautiful (on the outside) chapel. The inside is old (1880’s) and it’s just not that pretty. I’m not allowed to decorate the inside myself and the cheapest package is $450. That gets me pew bows and flowers, tons of candles, and two large floral arrangements at the alter. Otherwise, there will be no decorations at all.
The thing is, I’m not sure if I can justify spending $450 to decorate a room that I’ll be in for less than 20 minutes. I keep thinking $450 will pay for two massages on our honeymoon or a really nice wedding gift for my Fiance on our wedding night. I can afford it but I’m just not sure if it’s worth it.
Here are some pictures:
And with some decorations:

Do you have to buy the package? You can add some DIY decor for much cheaper than that. Make your own pew bows or other pew decorations. There’s lotts of options that you could do from real flowers to tulle, to ribbon, to lanterns… You could also do your own rose petals – real or silk. I bought some from petal garden and they were extremely good quality and really inexpensive.
You could also come up with some alter decor DIY or talk to your own florist about it and get some simple arrangements costed out.

Ogh sorry… just saw that you’re not allowed to decorate yourself… what if you provided the materials and the place hung them up? Is it a matter that they ar afraid you’ll damage the property? Or just want you to spend the money….
If you absolutely HAVe to go with the package or nothing, I say leave it as is.. you’ll be carrying flowers, your BMs will have flowers… should be enough.. not worth the $450.

@stargurl101: It is their package or nothing 🙁

I’d skip the package. I think it looks really nice inside – quite charming.

That’s a little ridiculous – in my opinion. Did you ask if they would allow you to do just some or part of the $450 package? For instance, just the rose petals and pew flowers (and skip the large arrangements at the front). In all honesty, the space is plain, but not ugly! It could use the color that flowers would bring, but for $450 – I think that the beauty of you and your bridesmaids would be enough!

If they aren’t willing to give you part of the package, then I say skip it. You can spend that money elsewhere. Plus when it’s full of people and your BMs are carrying flowers it won’t look so plain. I would just make sure that there is somewhere pretty outside that you can take the formal pictures with your mom & dad, grandparents, etc. Because those formal pictures will probably look a little plain in this sanctuary without flowers.
