So as of right now I am in a pickle trying to decide whether or not to have a DJ. I have a pros and cons list for each but just can’t make another decision right now. On one hand I have a vast music library stored on an external hard drive and a pretty decent speaker system that I can plug my laptop into. But on the other hand it would be nice to have a DJ to do all of the introductions and stuff for us. But is it really worth spending $750+ when you’re on a super tight budget? Let me know what you think!

Having the same problem. He wants a DJ, I personally have no problem just using a lap top though. It helps we’re gonna be a pretty small space though. If your reception is in a bigger area, I’d probably go with a DJ.

I understand having a DJ to handle requests and intros but honestly I have been to some weddings that I request a song and they either aren’t allowed to play it OR I never hear the song all night! Some DJ’s are good but is it worth how much the good one’s cost? for one night? When guess what the songs he plays are the exact same songs you can get on your laptop! We asked a friend who has big speakers to do it for us and I’ve already started making a playlist, that way he can make intros and with my playlist I know I’ll love every song he plays that night!!

We are on a smaller budget so this was a big decision for us. I wanted one but wasn’t sure if we could work it into the budget. Thankfully my sister offered to pay for a DJ as our wedding present. She is awesome!!

We are most likely using my laptop and a sound system, as well as hiring an emcee to run our playlist for us. I have a very good idea what music I want played, but I will have plenty of other music available if needed. We have access to the sound equipment so that helps a lot. I’m really into music and dancing, and there are so many songs I really, really want it seems almost silly to hire someone to play all the music I’ve selected. I would make sure your sound system is big enough for your space, hire an emcee and save the rest of your money! Even paying to download the rest of the music we don’t already own, we are saving a ton of money this way.
I wouldn’t do this without hiring someone to run it and do announcements though.
