I struggled with this too.  I decided that in person they look like fake flower petals, but in the photos you can’t tell.  So I paid $2.99 for a bag of silk petals (in MY colors) rather than $165 for freeze dried or fresh.

If you still want to go fresh, it costs $165 for like 3000 petals.  You can buy they from online wholesalers like Grower’s Box.

Just so you’re aware, make sure your venue doesn’t have a clause regulating this. If they do, make sure you follow their requirements so as to avoid monetary fines or worse, venue cancellation. The venue we chose requires real flower petals for the outdoor ceremony and if flower petals are used inside the reception area, they can only be silk.

I got my petals at the Dollar Tree. They came in a bag of 300 for $1.00!!

I know that price difference is a huge factor.  How will you go about clean-up though, if using silk petals outdoors?  (Being that they’re natural and biodegradable, I’d take it that the venue might be OK with leaving real petals to be mowed over or what not.)

By the way, the view of the mountains from your venue is awesome!  I love how the green of the grass is set off by the mountains in the distance and the blue sky.  Such a great wide open space!  :o)

Yeah, silk petals aren’t so great outside because they aren’t great for the environment so you’d have to clean them all up. You can use fresh petals or even freeze dried. I saw some fresh petals online, 12,000 for less than $200. Expensive, but for the amount, that’s really cheap. I don’t think silk works outside though, unfortunately. Natural petals generally sell by the cup or #of petals, but cup is more common.

I bought on ebay.

My venue cleans the petals up for you, they have to prepare the area for the next wedding.  (I’m SO ok with that!!)
