Last weekend we went ring shopping and I’ve narrowed it down to two options. The band I want is a 2mm pave so that I can wear it on its own if I want and I like how both styles of settings look with the band.
So the options are: a cushion cut solitaire on a plain band or a cushion cut on a pave band.
We’ve chosen a diamond that is about 1ct in size if that changes anything. With either setting I would want a thin band but its whether I want the extra sparkle or not. I also tend to prefer things that are pretty classic and want to make sure it is something that I’ll love forever. The other thing is maintenance as I’ve heard that the small diamonds can fall out of pave settings.
I’ve asked SO and he doesn’t have a preference and I really love them both! Help me choose, please!

robin2015: i love both, but personally I prefer pave. I habe a 1.25 cushion ct in a pave setting. But if you like classic and simple-the plain band might be better for you. Have you tried it on? Maybe you would get a better feel if ypu saw it on your hand? And remember, if you go with the plain band, you can always get a wedding band with pave diamonds. I havent had any issues with my pave diamonds falling out and ive had my ring for 3 years now
Here is mine just to get an idea of how it would look on a hand-my ring size is a 6

Daizy914: Your rings are gorgeous! I’m about a 5.5 so it would look similar on my hand I think.
My issue is I tried them both on and love them both! Suggested to SO that I get them both to avoid having to choose 🙂 and yes, I am planning on a pave band so I could get my sparkle from that.
Keep the beautiful ring pics coming!

Both are beautiful! I’m biased as well because I have a cushion in a pave setting that I love. No stones have fallen out, but it’s only been a few days! In talking to various stores we were told that quailty really makes a difference with keeping the tiny stones in the setting.
Anyway they are both gorgeous and congrats on the ring shopping 🙂

I love the plain band. So classic! And you can always get a pave band for the wedding band for a little extra sparkle. I love the different textures of a pave and a plain band too. If you want something a little bit different than just the plain band, maybe some engraving or unique detail like that?

Pave! I’ve had no issues with mine. There’s a bunch of different types of pave. Mine is called common prong.

robin2015: it really is a hard decision bc they are both really beautiful and classy. I like the sparkly look, so I would say go with the pave. But if you go with the plain band and get a pave wedding band you wil still get that sparkle. Either ring you pick is going to be a good choice. Decisions! Decisions!!! Lol

They are both very similar and beautiful choices, IMO. The plain band is gorgeous, understated and elegant. It’s obviously going to be a bit more timeless. Just as you say I’ve had friends lose stones from their pave settings. They were easily repaired though. If you are convinced that you will never change the setting than I’d opt for the solid band.
To me it’s the stone that is the sentimental part, though. I’d change a setting before I’d change the stone.

CAtoDCtoNashville: thanks I was really excited to finally start looking! I think my biggest concern about the pave band is that it will be too much and the simple band is more be. But then I see the sparkle pave settings and I second guess myself. If that’s your ring in your profile pic, your ring is stunning!
I should also add that we are already technically engaged but since the wedding is a surprise we aren’t telling p,eople we’re engaged either. Essentially, they’re both my wedding bands and I won’t be wearing the solitaire without the band.

Oh I am so drawn to the plain band…so gorgeous! But of course I’m biased!
I haven’t had any experiences with pave personally but I think it also looks beautiful!
The way I see it, whatever choice you make, you can’t lose!

The plain band is stunning. It really brings out the beauty of the diamon and the diamond looks bigger than in the pave band. I would definitely say go plain, and then get a blingy wedding band 🙂

robin2015: Surprise wedding is an AWESOME idea! If my family lived near each other I would totally do that. I’m probably going to go with a plain wedding band because the mixed textures are pretty… so maybe you should go plain on the ering since you’ll be wearing it with the sparkly band! I’m not being very helpful now haha but it’s good to have two gorgeous choices instead of one just ok one!

I like the plain band because it’s all about the centerstone and less maintenance but they’re both beautiful, cant go wrong.

I voted for the plain band, but I’m biased too! My engagement ring is a plain band and my wedding band is a half eternity. I really love how it looks.

Both of those rings are gorgeous! My bands all have pave work and I’ve only experienced one stone falling out and my jeweler replaced it for free. I haven’t experienced any other issues at all. I do get my rings steam cleaned and reset once a year but I would do this whether or not I had pave.
