Ever a controversial question, and I find myself stuck in the middle so I thought I’d crowdsource some opinions. I am in no way a “princess style” kind of woman. I don’t love Disney, I’ve already forgotten the name of the girl who married that prince in England recently, and I’m really not a fan of grown women dressing in ways that are too childish (I’ll be 32 when getting married if that matters). That said, I DO love fashion and a hint of drama while not going overboard, and I’m a firm believer in the idea of “if it works, it works.” Ever since I saw Blake Lively’s look at the MET Gala last year I’ve been somewhat obsessed with having a hairpiece of some kind (pic below for reference) and I think I found an interesting tiara that I could possibly pull off. “Sophisticated with a twist” is sort of where my fashion tends to fall, and this feels a bit more like that.
So here are some pics of my dress, as well as a terrible scribble of the veil I’m having made for me (sorry, I just had the pens in my desk to work with). It’s a cape veil, so it will not drape over my head or go in my hair. Could you see this tiara working with this ensemble? The tiara would hopefully be situated a bit further back on my head and pinned in, so it will lessen the “crown” effect a little, but I’m still unsure.
Blake Lively’s Met Gala look:
My dress (only it will be white, not this dark ivory in the pictures):
Somewhat representative picture of the cape veil I’ll be wearing (red squiggles – lace appliques, blue dots – sparkle beads)

Not just for princesses anymore.

I think if you like the look of a tiara, you should wear a tiara. I wasn’t really into the idea of a veil, but when I tried one on with my dress I found it aesthetically pleasing and decided it completed the look for me.

I dig it! You may end up having to play around to get a hair style you like with it but I think it’s going to finish off your look. I am so stoked to see someone else with a cape!

I think the brides outfit is one thing that you can go totally wild with, and do whatever you want. I think picking a dress to suit a venue is dumb, wear what you like!
All that said, I think the first one is pretty ugly (and tbh I feel that way about most typical tiaras), BUT the one you posted is really pretty, and reads more of a headband to me. I don’t think it would come off princessy or childish at all. Team (this) tiara!

hickoryhills : Oh please do the tiara. It will pull the look together and im positive you’ll be able to pull it off wonderfully. not too drmatic, subtle, classy, but with a twist like you said. im actually getting inspired by this.

hickoryhills : I’d consider that more of a headpiece. When I read “tiara” I was picturing a little girl princess wanna be thingwhich I am not a fan of. I think you could rock that without looking childish though!

First off, your dress is BEAUTIFUL. Second, you absolutely should wear your tiara! It’s your day, and with things like this, I feel like you will *Always* regret not wearing it if you don’t follow your heart. Also, on the day of, if you change your mind, take it off 🙂

cwes62219 : Thank you! I love my dress to bits. 🙂 And yes – you make an excellent point. If I change my mind the day-of and I don’t want the tiara anymore, then I just bail on it. I definitely need to keep it in mind that nothing is set in stone.

I def think you could rock an interesting tiara or headpiece with your dress and cape veil. I think it would add just the right amount to the overall look.

Team Tiara! I’m 47 and I would wear a tiara. Hell I’d wear that tiara EVERY DAY! I love it! I can’t wait to see you in your dress, cape viel, and tiara!!!

I absolutely love your dress! It’s stunning on you!
As for the tiara, I say go for it! As PPs have mentioned, you always decide not to wear it the day of if you aren’t feeling it. There’s not a lot of occasions where it’s even an option though so if you like the look you should wear it.

It will be beautiful with your gown. You’ll look like a queen!

Bee, please, wear the tiara. You will look absolutely stunning, and regal in that star tiara! I hope you share photos of your whole ensemble, and proudly wearing your stars. That’s definitely an unusual tiara in a fantastic way, and I love it.
