I am having a friend of a friend do my makeup (and the mothers and the bridesmaids) for the day of my wedding. She does wedding makeup on the side. She is being great about coming to us, and even staying until after the ceremony to do touch ups. She has promised goodie bags for all the girls with some makeup samples as well. She gave me a flat rate for all 6 of us, and she told me if there are any other family members that want to get their makeup done she would do that as well. It isn’t cheap – but comparable to what places in my area are charging (North Jersey, not too far from NYC.)
My question is: do I tip her on top of that? I plan on giving her cash. Any ideas???

I would tip her because she is providing you with a service. I think of the hair and makeup like I would if I went to get my hair done at a salon, I would tip there. It doesnt have to be much but I tipped about 15-20% of the total. Make sure she doesnt have a tip already included though

Or maybe a really nice gift. I am sure she would appreciate the cash though.

if shes your friend you can give her a nice bottle of wine; thats what I’m doing for friends who are giving me free services
I feel weird paying friends
but if you dont know her that well maybe put it in a nice envelope

If the tip is not included, I would tip her 🙂

If she is doing this on her own time, and you are already paying her, then I’m not sure if you need to tip. After all, she is being provided with compensation for her time, and she set the rates. Why would you pay more for something that she as already determined the value of? On the other hand, if she is working for a company or such that you were paying, and she was just the worker, then I would definitely tip. As someone who struggles with situations like this, I’m interested in seeing what others think…

thank you all for your responses. i have been reading other related posts and it seems like people are just generally torn on this issue. i think i might need to wait for that day and see how i feel…and just have the extra tip money handy!
