This poll is more of just a “for fun” thing. Darling Husband and I have the wonderful opportunity to move to Australia (we live in Canada) in September. We would likely live there for 6 months, travel SE Asia and New Zealand for 2 months after, and then after that we have to attend the wedding of our dear friends in Italy (we are both in the bridal party). We would likely travel around Europe for a month afterwards, meaning this whole experience will take up 9 months of our lives. We would return home July 1, 2019, at which point we would start TTC.
I am well aware that this is the trip of a lifetime, and part of me is SO excited about it! However, the other part of me is overwhelmingly consumed with baby fever (same goes for DH). I think about babies all day, everyday. I want to be a mother so badly. So badly, in fact, that we are considering not going to Australia at all (we wouldn’t start trying while we’re away because I want to have a good job secured back home where I’ll get good maternity leave). But I am also aware that we probably would never get to experience a trip like this once we start having children.
So, if you were faced with the option of having the 9-month-long trip or a lifetime or starting your family, which would you choose? I am 25 and Darling Husband is 27, so we are not facing a ticking clock quite yet (although we do want 4 children if possible).
I’m not asking you what I should do, just wondering what you would do. Thanks! 🙂

sassybeee : So much depends on where you are in life. I love to travel and the idea of a huge– once in a lifetime move like that! But my Darling Husband and I are 10 years apart and I’m in my 30’s, him in his 40’s… so TTC is #1 priority for us right now and since we’re having some trouble, putting it off even a year or two to travel more would be delaying it much longer than that. So– if we were younger with more time, I’d say we would probably travel!

sassybeee : Consider how you would feel if you skipped the trip to TTC and you didn’t get pregnant right away. I personally would take the trip – it sounds amazing! And think of all the amazing lessons and stories you’ll have for you future children after that experience.

I’d travel. You’ll have those memories forever. Plus, you guys are still young. Plenty of time for both.

That trip sounds amazing! I would definitely go for the trip if I was in my 20s.

You’re so young so definitely travel. I live in New Zealand & it’s truly beautiful

You’re young! I would travel. I had serious baby fever a few years ago (I was 28) but decided to travel instead; Belize, Morocco, Phillipeans, Mexico, Poland, Sweden, and I loved every minute of it! I got the travel bug (mostly) out of my system and we are now TTC. You wont have opportunities like this once you have a child, travelling will become much more difficult.

At age 25, 100% trip of a lifetime. You have the entire rest of your life to be saddled with children and not getting to romp around the world.
Provided you can enjoy it and not be just pining to be TTC…..

I’d definitely travel. We also held off TTC for one last trip of a lifetime and we are in our mid 30s. Don’t regret it at all.

Trip hands down. We waited about a year after getting married so that we could go to Peru and Italy before trying and that was at age 32. And 5.5 years later we are finally preg again with hopefully our rainbow baby. A year is *nothing* in the grand scheme, not even if it takes a while.

I voted trip of a lifetime (and I just had a baby that I adore) because you only get one life! Take the trip! You have plenty of time for kids 🙂

Trip, hands down, any day. You’re young. Travel while you can before you have kids and it’s not as easy.

i’ve been TTC for a year and am frustrated as fuck.. and even I’d choose the trip, especially given your ages.

I 100% would say the trip. But, I personally don’t get the whole baby fever thing anyway, so it is would be a no brainer for me lol
