@jwdesiree:  When my SO was deployed we could barely have any contact. There was no skype back then, he wasn’t allowed to have a cell phone and there was an internet cafe that you could get on maybe once a week for thirty minutes. He was in a war zone and communication was very difficult.

We wrote each other letters every single day FOR OVER A YEAR (I still have them ALL and so does he). He would buy prepaid cell phones off local children and call me whenever he could. I wasn’t ever able to call him but I knew when I got a call from a strange number at 3 a.m. it was him!

Then when he came back to the states and was stations far away he’d drive 12 hours just to spend a weekend with me a couple times a month. I flew down a few times too.

@jwdesiree:  We were long distance for *drum roll* 6 1/2 years! We started dating my senior year of highschool after knowing each other since 7th grade. I was valedictorian at my school (which he didn’t believe until he saw me give my speech LOL) and so I went pretty far away from home to a really good school. He spent his weekdays working 2 jobs and taking night classes for his degree so he could drive down every weekend to be with me!! After 4 years of my undergrad I moved again… but only about an hour closer and the trend continued. By then he had a much better job and had his degree, but he still spent his weekends driving to see me. I would wait up on Friday nights for him to arrive ~3am, we’d stay up until dawn talking, sleep in a bit, get Saturdays together, and then try to make Sundays last as long as possible. Finally when I chose my grad school I picked something that was within commute to his work and we took the plunge and bought a house together. It was the first time we ever got to live together and we were signing a 30 year mortgage, lol. So worth it, I love living with him and now we are engaged 😀

@FutureDrAtkins:  Awe how sweet! We were long distance for a long time too! We were in love but still wanted to make sure we took our own paths since we were young. And through all the commuting we stayed together AND met our goals and will finally be moving in together in a couple months!

@ValerieBee03:  Sounds a lot like us! Good for you for sticking to your own paths! I think it will make for a strong marriage if you each can hold true to your own convictions without compromising on your relationships either. I feel like I learned a hell of a lot from our LDR.

1) We got married.

2) I moved across the country for him.

3) He drove me home on the one week he had off from school so I could get a surgery I couldn’t get where we were living, and waited on me hand and foot.

4) I gave up my dream job to move with him again so he could start his dream job.
