- Wedding: June 2013
I don’t usually get corny on the Bee, but it’s our engagement-versary today! I can’t believe it’s been one year since it all happened, and only 33 days until the wedding!!!
Here’s our proposal story:
It was our first day on vacation in Walt Disney World. I am such a meticulous planner that our friends and family “in the know” were worried John wouldn’t be able to pull off such a big surprise. He scheduled a lovely dinner at Artist Point in the Wilderness Lodge to “give us a break from the long day at The Magic Kingdom”. We put a change of clothes in a locker in The Magic Kingdom, and John checked the lock on that locker no less than 5 times (because the ring was inside).
After dinner, we had a drink at the bar and then we decided to take a stroll around the property. We “happened” upon a beach and boat dock, and John told me that he wanted to surprise me with something I’ve never done before at Disney–a private boat to watch the Wishes Fireworks display in the lagoon across from The Magic Kingdom. I was thrilled and super surprised, but I still didn’t know that there was a bigger plan…John has spoiled me with many surprises over the years, so I thought this was just a fun way to kick off our week long vacation.
The captain of the boat took us on a tour of the lagoon before getting us set to watch the fireworks. John asked if there was anything to drink on board and the captain pulled out a bottle of Moet. John asked me to stand up “to take a picture” and handed his camera (set to video) to the captain. John suddenly got down on one knee and the I barely remember what happened (good thing we have it on video), but I know it was heartfelt and special. From there, my mind went reeling: I can’t wait to marry my best friend! Wow, this ring is big and beautiful! I need to call my parents! Text my friends! Facebook!!!!!
After the proposal, the captain pulled out some beautiful chocolate covered strawberries and we sat down with our champagne to watch the rest of the fireworks display. Once that was over, he dropped us off and we went back to The Magic Kingdom to enjoy the late-night magic hours as an engaged couple.
When we arrived back to our hotel room, there was a beautiful display with balloons, Bride and Groom Minnie and Mickey hats with our names on them, a picture frame, and pins that say “Just Engaged” and “Happily Every After”. We wore these pins the rest of the week and were treated like royalty by all of the staff; it made for a very special week.
