I used a toddler but I would just go to a lg bed with a saftey railing if I had to do it again.  They don’t use it for that long its king of a waste of money.

My son was about a year and a half old when we turned his crib into a toddler bed(had one of those transitional cribs), then when we moved out of state to where we are now for a short while he actually slept on a queen size mattress until I bought him the bed he has now which is a Thomas the Train toddler bed. We are thinking next summer before he starts school we will transition him to a twin size bed.

We transitioned to a toddler bed at 18 months.  Some people choose to use a toddler bed, some people just go straight to a twin or full bed with railings, so it’s really personal choice.  Dirty Delete has this bed from Ikea, which has been perfect for her!  I think, if we had waited until she was older to transition her we probably would’ve just gone to a twin bed with railings, but since she was so young when she moved out of her crib, we felt more comfortable with a toddler bed, instead.

My older daughter began climbing out of her crib at 11 months.  Thank god I had a crib that transitioned to a toddler bed.  She slept in the toddler bed from 11 months to almost 5 years old.  My younger daughter is now 11 months and not even close to escaping… so we will see.

My son went straight to a captain’s bed at 18 months. We did add a side rail. One side was against the wall.

He was already climbing out of the crib and jumping to the floor. The captain’s bed wasn’t any taller than the top of the  crib rail, so I figured it was no greater hazard.

We had a convertible crib which we converted to a toddler bed at 14 months old.  It was in hopes our son would come to us when waking.
