Well, the basics of weight lifting are fewer reps at a higher weight to bulk and more QUICK reps for length and tone on muscles. Most women want to do a lighter weight with quick and many reps…

Pushups are good, assisted pull ups, planks, yoga can help too.  

I used to (and need to again) do pushups basically whenever I could. I would do 20 during a commercial break, take a break from the computer, do them before bed etc…. I was doing them for 2 fold reasons of toning but also for surfing 🙂

I’m trying to figure out a routine to incorporate with my cardio.

The trainer may be the way to go, because I’m really looking into it myself. At least to get you started.
