I thought my two-piece bathing suit days were long behind me by the time I got married late in life — and many pounds after I had stopped wearing them. However, I ordered some amazing two-piece suits from Figleaves.com for my honeymoon and loved the way that they fit me. I was wearing a 14W-16W at that time. I personally wouldn’t wear one now, because I’ve gained a lot more weight over the years, but I think if you have a good, supportive two-piece suit in which the top fits like a beautiful, good bra and the bottom provides coverage comparable to a pair of flattering French cut underwear, it can provide a nicer fit than some one-piece suits.

jannigirl : I don’t think any size is too big for a bikini. If they make one in your size and you can rock it then you should go for it.

I grew up in a really conservative area so unless it’s a friend’s pool, I wear a one piece. It’s a modesty thing. I hate unwanted attention. If it’s at a friend’s pool I’ll rock a thong bikini or even go topless.

I am 5’4 and about 110 lbs.  I have no (well barely any) boobs and my butt has got to hold 80% of my weight.  I have always thought that I had the wrong body for a bikini with no curves to make one look good (well except for my butt ๐Ÿ™‚ ) That being said, I wear one anyway cause they are comfy!  Wear what you are comfy in and screw what other people think!

I was about a size 20 and 210lbs most of my life. Had a bit of a problem with eating… Got down to about 130 (which I looked like I was 100lbs soaking wet). I couldn’t bring myself to wear a bikini even being that thin. Got big again after an injury… Then ive finally lost it.. Healthy this time… and I’m about 125 and dont look skeletal. And it was just this past summer that I was comfortable wearing a bikini. I was comfortable with the pudge and mommy tummy.

You do you. Its all about confidence.

It’s always ok for any woman any size to wear a bikini… just as it’s ok for any size/age man to choose to wear a beach thong or speedo….it may not be the most flattering but, their body, their choice…

I’m so confused after reading all the replies. There’s girl who posted an adorable picture of herself in a fab bikini and I feel empowered, like, hell yeah! Look how cute she looks! You can do that! But then there’s the girls who feel too big at less than 125 lbs and won’t wear a bikini at a size 4 and I think, god, what chance do I have if objectively thin women think they’re too big for bikinis? Each woman is well within her right to decide whatever she wants to wear, but I can’t help but feel affected by others like/dislike of their bodies.

I guess as a woman no matter what you wear, you get judged.  Soooo… what? What can we do?

As a final thought, how often do you see men covering up at the beach? They all go topless no matter what, so why the fuck do women care so much? #toplessforall

Nobody is too big for a bikini! If you want to wear one, wear one and look fabulous in it.

clickclack14 :  so true. Older men in speedos have no shame about their male parts sagging and drooping with age.

Weirdly I was comfortable in a two peice (not like a skimpy bikini but the old school retro style) when I was a size 22. Now I’m much smaller and prefer a one peice.

penny1403 :  You are the exact reason women feel ashamed and self conscious about their bodies. After reading this thread and seeing all these women basically saying wear what you want no matter your size, I was believing that these body shamers were a myth and I should try to be less self conscious on the beach because nobody is actually judging my cellulite and squishy tummy…and then you decided to type what you wrote and made me reconsider…

All I can say is may you never weigh more than a kilogram from your ideal weight and may you never get old and have to rely on more than your appearance to get by and may you never have to feel the level of judgement that you dish out from another person over your appearance.

I know I’d prefer to have a saggy bottom over a shitty judgemental personality…. smh!!!

Oh, that just triggered a flashback to the days at the indoor pool.  That which cannot be unseen.
