I know my FI’s family puts it up the day after our Thanksgiving (US) and takes it down right after the New Year.

I feel your festiveness, though!  I saw them putting up that green pine tree looking stuff on the street lights today outside my office and I got a warm, fuzzy feeling in my heart and it had nothing to do with the soy tea latte I was drinking.  🙂

I say it’s too early. I think it’s more respectful to Wait til after remembrance day and focus on that holiday first, then I think it’s fair game!

Way to soon!  I love Christmas so much but never put the tree up until after (USA) Thanksgiving.

Since Thanksgiving is already passed for you, I think any time is fine!

For the love of all that is stuffed, please wait until we’ve all had turkey first.

It is tradition in my house (my family has done this since I was young) that we decorate the day after Thanksgiving.  Everyone was still usually on vacation and it was a family bonding experience.  Afterwards we would have cookies and hot chocolate while we turned off the lights and plugged in the tree and just talked and looked at our job well done.

I keep the tradition because it was something I really enjoyed and looked forward to.  I feel its too early to decorate before Thanksgiving and if you wait until December you don’t get to enjoy your decor and efforts for as long.

I find the early peddling of Christmas a way of flogging goods onto the unsuspecting public by making them think that they are socially required to buy family members pieces of ****. I know that Christmas isn’t really Christmas any more, and should probably be renames the “winter festival of greed”, but at least they could wait until December. I just find it offensive that a religious festival has effectively been hijacked by the media and advertising industries.

When I am ruler of the universe, I will make it illegal to advertise Christmas, sell Christmas themed goods without a license (for example, some specialist stores sell Christmas trees etc all year long), mention Christmas, or decorate for Christmas before the 1st of December. I have a variety of punishments for offenders in mind, including community service whilst dressed as elves, or being put in stocks and having fruit thrown at you whilst dressed as Father Christmas (sorry… Father Festival of Winter Greed).

When I become Prime Minister, I officially give permission for you to quote me on all of the above…

Maybe I’m wrong, but isn’t it dangerous to have a real tree up that long? Is yours fake?

I put up the one my parents home on november 20th because it’s a holiday (revolution day) and we have the day off, it became my tradition to do it that day and I love having it as long as possible, however, we have an artificial tree, so I don’t know how that’ll go with a natural tree.

We don’t have any kind of thanksgiving here.

I’d wait until at least December!  It’ll die if you put it up this early!

I was thinking about this the other day too. However, I was more thinking about it from a time standpoint – I was thinking if we start now and do some decorating in our little time off each week, maybe all of our decorations will be up before Christmas! Last year we finished decorating about 2 days before Christmas and I was totally bummed to take everything down when we had just put it up!
