I think of its the only chance for you all to shop together it’s worth at least getting an idea for what’s flattering. The bridal stores probably hate it but you don’t have to order immediately.

@ticklemepink:  I think you’d probably be better off waiting until you’ve got your dress. You don’t want to be too restricted, if you find a dress you love for you and it doesn’t really go with the bridemaids dresses you’ve already picked then you won’t be very happy!!

Saying that, there’s no harm in going shopping and getting the girls to try some on! It’s all so much fun =) But I’d just wait to order them until you’re sure of what you’re wearing. It could make it easier further down the line as well because you know what will suit them, especially if you end up having trouble getting them all together at the same because of where they live.

Everyone keeps telling me I’m doing things too soon for my wedding in March 2013, and I’m fed up with it now! I like to be organised, so why would I be any different for the most important day of my life so far! I ordered my dress back in August and chose my bridesmaids dresses at the weekend!

Your poll choices are basically the same! lol

I think it would be fine to go ahead and let them try on dresses together to see what styles, materials, colors, etc. they/you like! But I wouldn’t order just yet

Definitely way too soon – plus we’ll see 3 more seasons’ worth of styles come and go between now and December so you never know what you’ll fall in love with.

I would go shopping now to get an idea of flattering styles and personal preferences, but definitely don’t commit to one yet!

A ha ha your poll choices are the same thing. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It might be a little soon. Plus, if you do find a couple of dress options at the end of the year, usually your out of town girls would still be able to find a salon closer to them that carries it and could still try on the dress before you decided to order.

One advantage of looking now, is that the girls might be able to score some great summer sales. However I agree with PPs- you should find your dress first before the girls buy theirs. No harm in window shopping, though- you can see what styles/colors work on everyone.

I didn’t vote because I think you should do it and there’s not an option to vote for that

My wedding is August 2013 and we got engaged July 2011. Same situation. I am living in NY and two of my BM’s live in Northern CA where our wedding will be and my Maid/Matron of Honor lives in Alabama. We got together in February to go dress shopping for me but I just recently picked my dress and will be ordering it in August. I totally get wanting to look at dresses while you have the chance to do it all together and I definitely think you should and that there is no harm in it, but I wouldn’t order anything or set anything in stone until you order/pick YOUR dress. My idea on Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses changed quite a bit after I found my dress so that is something to be cautious of. But I don’t see any harm in all going together to get an idea of colors, styles, etc and just to have a good girls bonding time! ๐Ÿ™‚

@Jessica24UK I get the “you have plenty of time” you’re doing things “too early” alllll of the time too! I want to scream sometimes…I am VERY organized and like to have everything completely planned out…not to mention I am planning my wedding from 3,000 miles away and have very limited time that I am in CA to do stuff. Its my wedding I will plan what I want to plan when I want to plan it! LOL I booked my venue in Sept 2011 (for August 2013) as well as booked my photographer and dj. The plus…I got 2012 prices and not 2013 ๐Ÿ™‚ There are great advantages to being ahead of the game!

@Miss.GrahamCracker:  There are huge advantages of booking advance! It’s not like a birthday party where I could just pick something else because it doesn’t really matter, this is our WEDDING DAY!! We’re only planning on doing this once! If you want the best suppliers at the best prices you have to get ahead of the game ๐Ÿ™‚

I actually found out a girl I used to go to school with wanted to book my venue on my exact wedding day….but she couldn’t because I was more organised so she had to change her date. That’s exactly what I tell people now when they say it’s too soon!

I get it a lot at wedding fairs too, as soon as they say that I walk away, they’re not getting my business if they’re going to mock me!

Good luck with your planning!

It wouldn’t hurt to get some opinions while they are in town. However, I would reccommend having your dress picked out first before making any final decisions.

Don’t buy your dresses now! Wait for another six months. Go ahead and go shopping together and pick out a style, but wait until 6 months ahead of time to order them so people don”t change sizes. We bought ours much too early and 3/5 bridesmaids drastically changed weights (by at least 30 lbs).
