This is my first post as a bee 🙂 I have a question for ya’ll about Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. I found a dress online today: http://www.newport-news.com/shop/product_single.aspx?style_id=36950181 that I love, and if you see the price $45! I’ve ordered one so that we can check it out, but my wedding isn’t until August 2010 and I don’t have my own dress yet, even though I have a good idea of what it will look like. Is it too early to get these if we all end up loving them?

um… it’s never too early! I was going to buy some dresses from macy that were on sale for 12 dollars that fit my color the only thing was they were a little too short… this was a week after proposal (2 months ago)… (i didn’t even have my ring!) and our wedding isn’t till Oct 2010.
So sure you’re not the only one. Hehe.

So the dress came in and I love it, except I think it might be too short? Are long bridesmaid dresses supposed to cover part/most of the shoe? This one doesn’t do either and I’m only 5’6". Thanks 🙂

Then it’s probably too short 🙁 But actually, I think it might be too early–once you get your dress you may change your mind about what you want for your bridesmaids. And sizes can change a lot in over a year!

When you find a dress you love and would like to see in your wedding….get it. If you wait, chances are you may not end up with it in the end!

We picked our bridesmaid dresses long before I found my dress (but it could be a reflection of my pickiness more than anything else!)
I love the dress. The only thing that I’d caution you on is that the one shoulder style is very trendy right now, but will you still love it a year from now?
Just something to consider.

One of my Bridesmaid or Best Man and I are both getting married, and we trade books and research etiquette together. One of the number one rules for bridesmaid dresses is "Once you find a dress you love, move on it!" You never know when the dress will be discontinued or when they might change their colors. I am not getting married until Oct. 2010 and we just put in our bridesmaid dress orders this week. Also, if some girls need to have alterations done, you will need to allow time for that as well. I say it’s not too early. Just stop looking once you’ve found the one. I actually saw one in a magazine that I (almost) liked better than mine, but I just go back and look at the picture of mine and fall in love all over! GO FOR IT!

Also, in my Bridesmaid or Best Man wedding, we just ordered our dresses for her wedding (she’s a June 2010 bride) and one girl’s dress isn’t scheduled to ship until two months from now! It’s from J.Crew so it’s a retailer similar to Newport News! I hope this helps!

In Sept 08 I thought I found our Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses (for our 08/09 wedding). 2 girls bought them, then I changed my mind! OOPS. So now we have new dresses and everyone is happy, I bought the dresses offf the girls and have been trying to sell them with little luck. So, if you have a history of being indecisive I say wait. But if you’re the type (unlike me) who can make a choice and stick with it – then go for it!

My advice is wait. You’ve got plenty of time until your wedding, which means plenty of time to change your mind. You don’t want to do that to your bridesmaids!

Thanks for all of the replies 🙂 By the time I had researched some photos of ankle-length evening dresses and shown it to only one of the bridesmaids in real life, the dress is no longer available from newport news! I’m not too worried since I was being a bit indecisive, I probably wasn’t completely in love anyway. Thanks again!
