Good morning Ladies!
So my wedding is next November (Nov 2011) and I’ve heard from other brides in the my area (and read about a dozen different threads) that booking a MUA is hard as most of them are booked months and months in advance.
I found one that I really like, she’s offerred to do a trial now and a free 2nd trial before my wedding and full refund back on the deposit if I cancel between now and 14 days before my wedding. She just recently got some good local reviews in the media so I’m afraid she’ll start booking up.
Is it too early to book this kind of thing? I don’t want to be scrambling next year.

If you can cancel up until 14 days before your wedding with no issues than whats the harm? If you find someone better you can just switch.

I booked my MUA about a year out. I say go for it, especially if you have the option to cancel.

Either way, don’t wait too long! I put it off until April or May and had a panic moment when everyone in town seemed to be booked! No later than 6 months out for sure!

Thanks for the advice!
When I spoke with her, she said that the average is 9-12 months out. Isn’t that just crazy?

I agree with the other posters who’ve said do it now if you have found someone you like! My MUA was one of the first people I booked because I already knew I wanted her and didn’t want someone else to get her first! I’m glad I did, because she was at a big bridal show in my city last weekend and I’m sure she has tons of interest now. An added perk of doing it relatively early…she was about to raise her prices and booked me under the old ones! I say do it now and then you can forget about it and move on to other planning!
Edit to add – agh, just saw you already talked to her! Good decision 🙂

I went for my trial just over a year out. I’m not getting a second trial, but they did take pics and I trust that they’ll do the same thing on the wedding day. I don’t think it’s a big deal to book this far out. You’re being pro-active!
