We’re trying to finish up our registry. I think I have a good range of prices–from $2.99-$299 so far. My FH wants to add the TV in the link below to our registry. It’s $1,600. We know we could never expect one person to spend that, but would be really ecstatic if a bunch of people went in on it for us. Is this too expensive for our registry? I just don’t want to look greedy. We will be moving in together for the first time after the wedding and we both just have small crappy tube TVs. Let me know what you think!

Do it, if nothing else you’ll get a discount afterwards and maybe some gift cards. We put a king mattress set on ours because we’ll get a discount after….

I don’t see anything wrong in adding the TV, some people also chip in together to contribute to a wedding gift, so you never know!

sure why not, lots of people I know have requested artwork as a wedding gift that a dozen or so people chipped in on. You will get people who say a TV is not a appropriate but these days I figure that anything you and your FH ‘need’ for the home is fair game. We don’t actually need anything, we’ve been happily cohabitating for 6+ years and have everything, we’re just going to upgrade it all (hopefully).

The worst that can happen is that no one will buy it! We have a couple bigger things on ours.

@snoozebox1220: mmm, if I saw something like that on a registry it’d probably turn me off from giving them a gift altogether. I normally think of registry as normal household items. But entertainment items, especially at that price? I don’t think so.

As long as the registry isn’t only expensive items, go for it. I think most people realize it’s so that either a group can go in together, or so that you can get it at a discount after the wedding.

put whatever you want. i don’t know if your registry does this, but macy’s has a dream fund, where people can contribute cash to your registry instead of buying an item.

@snoozebox1220: I think that is a bit much to put on a registry. However, there is nothing wrong with gift cards because then you could buy it yourself after 🙂 Group gifts can be incredibly annoying to coordinate, so this option would be a lot easier for your guests (and look a lot less gift grabby). The range you have already sounds perfect, and that one expensive gift would throw everything right off.
