I need help!
My wedding is August of 2016, which feels like a kajillion years away, so I had NO intentions of dress shopping at least until next summer. Last weekend, my mom and best friend took me to a bridal show where I saw a dress and immediately fell head over heels in love. I can’t stop thinking about it, I keep staring at it on the website…I am obsessed.
So, would I be insane for wanting to try it on this early? Have any of you bought your dresses this far in advance and regretted it?
My concern now is that if I leave it and it’s no longer in stores when I’m ready to shop, that I won’t find anything that compares to it.
I’m in a pickle bees.

I tried on a ton of dresses before I knew I was ready to buy. I say go ahead and try it on but absolutely DO NOT BUY IT. You can ask the store to keep your information and they can usually let you know if they are removing it from stock. New dresses will come out every season so you may fall in love with multiple dresses. It may even be cheaper in a year!

Go try it on. Sure. Do it. The shop will save the style number for you. Give it a few months before you buy it just to be sure. I wouldn’t buy it this far in advance… but my friend has. (Her’s is Sept 2016). As long as the style isn’t discontinued then there shouldn’t be any issues ordering it later. It’s not going anywhere!

sauve2015: I would at least try it on…definitely not buy. That way you know if that’s what you want to if you need to start looking at other styles. I fell in love with a dress and didn’t want to look seriously at anything else I was just casually looking. Then I tried it on I did not like the way it fit me and went with a totally different dress.

sauve2015: nothing wrong with trying it on and looking around, but don’t buy this early. i ordered mine 9 months before my wedding and even that seemed a bit early (considering that it arrived 12 days after i ordered it HAHAH!) just make sure you have all the details on it and make a final decision closer to spring of next year maybe?

sauve2015: Do NOT buy yet. I wouldn’t even suggest trying it on. It will just make you lust for it even more. (harsh I know ). You have almost 2 years, which means almost 4 new lines are going to come out from a bajillion designers each season. I am sure you will buy it, keep looking and fall head over heels in love with another one, then be up poo creek.

I did not vote in the poll because this is entirely up to you depending on circumstance. I just bought my wedding dress and my wedding is in two years. The reason why I did this was because we are personally in a financial position where if we don’t start collecting things now the wedding will not happen. We are handling the entire cost of the wedding. Also some say the dress sets the tone for the wedding. For me, this meant that I needed to take care of the dress first. So for me personally, it wasnt too early especially since I knew I found the one. I thought it would take me way longer to find my dress, but it took me two trips and I do not regret it at all! It is a huge relief to have that taken care of and this allows me to make final decisions on all other attire and decor. If any part of YOU feels it is too early then you shouldnt have gone shopping to begin with. But if you can’t stop thinking about the dress GO GET IT. Obviously wait til closer to the wedding for any alterations though. And do not tell them your real wedding date, at all, ever.

My wedding isn’t until 11/14/2015 and I bought my dress in August. Not quite two years out, but still significantly early. I have zero regrets. I found the dress, I fell in love and now I have absolutely no desire to look anymore. Just my two cents!

Well I have a couple points to share with you. I am a dress consultant at a small bridal boutique, my first point would be if this is your dress and you buy early DO NOT keep looking. The only dresses you should be shopping for after that are your bridesmaids. Buying early is not a bad thing I mean most brides purchase a year before. Also there is no gaurantee that dress will still be in production closer to your wedding. Collections are changed every spring and fall and old dresses get discontinued. I just had to tell a bride I could not get her dress because she waited too long to order and it is being discontinued. Use your discretion and if this is your dream pull the trigger but be smart about not shopping anymore and stand behind your choice. Congrats and good luck!

sauve2015: I would try it on but I wouldn’t commit to it just yet. My wedding isn’t until 2016 too. We have plenty of time to find the one!
