I was experimenting with some menu card designs last week and came up with this:
The fortune cookie is slightly raised off of the 4×5″ embossed card that opens up to list our Szechwan Menu inside. They would sit at each place setting. These are our escort cards/part of our favors:
Do the menu cards work to tie the dinner portion of the reception together, or are they just goofy -perhaps I should go for something more simple/sophisiticated?
I should note that I “colored” the fortune cookie cutout on my iPad and then it is printed and cut on my silhouette machine. I used double stick foam tape to attach & raise off the embossed card. I already have all the cards (a killer deal at Michaels a few months back), so I will use the ivory card, but I could emboss it (or not) with a different design.
Fiance says he likes them, but he says he likes everything I’ve done so far 🙂

@wabanzi: I think it just depends on what look you’re going for. The menus have a casual look to them with the fortune cookie on it IMO, so if that’s what you’re going for I think it fits perfectly. If you’re trying to do a fancy black tie affair, the menus might look a little out of place.

I like it! I think its cute!
the only thing i don’t get is the yarn fortune cookie keychain… is that a favor?

@wabanzi: I think the fortune cookie is a little big. I would either make it smaller – or get rid of it all together – and just leave the Menu tag. You could even put Lucky numbers on the bottom of the menu tag so that people get that its from a fortune cookie.

@Kate0558: The escort cards/favors are the pyramid box with the tag, inside is my hand crocheted fortune cookie key chain with a peronalized fortune for each guest. These are all finished (all 170 of them!). The fortune inside are meant to be a conversation starter at the table when they first sit down at the table. I realize a lot of people will probably leave them at the table and I’m OK with that. We have a photobooth and a candy/popcorn bar for additional favors that people may want.
@housebee: I think that is what worries me, we are having a semi-formal/evening wedding. I don’t want to be too casual overall, but don’t mind fun little touches. I’m just not sure if this…
@MrsBaldEagle: Resizing is no problem, just as long as the “menu” is readable.

I think it starts to cross the theme wedding line and would go for something more simple and sophisticated, personally.

@weddingmaven: Hmm. OK–I don’t want to cross that line. We are not having a theme other that “we’re getting married.” 🙂

@wabanzi: I LOVE it!
I think it’s super fun, and I love how it ties in with your favor!

Thanks for all the feedback ladies. Results seems mixed, so I guess I’ll need to think on it somemore (but please still give your advice 🙂
By The Way: I got a pm that the poll was confusing (oposite of the title) so I deleted it. I should have been more careful.

I don’t know, it is heavy on the theme, but your menu is Szechwan so whatever! I LOVE the idea of a personalized fortune cookie, so cute!
